Default SUN 288

Buy the Zex dry kit for a 5.0 efi mustang with the biggest bottle they offer. He runs a 75hp shot and said you can hold the button down till it runs out but any more than 75hp held down and your skating at your own risk. Like I said he has put 16 bottles thru his this summer @ about a 100 hrs and its still in one piece so I guess I'm now a believer.

Your 500EFI's have knock sensors in them with built-in timing retard. No external retard required unless you want to go completely third-party ignition system. The retard should never kick in with a 100 shot if you run plenty of fuel.

The dry systems are fine, but the wet ones (with spray bars in the plate) are easier to set up and run. The fuel pressure cutoff switch is a necessity cause it will kill the N2o flow if the fuel pressure drops.

Lee way, big diff in price. If $ we not a problem, I would already have a Whipple!

Muffman, I will seek info on Zex. Nitrouse Express got back to me and want me to run a kit worth $1355.00 All the goodies, inc. fuel switch, blow down tube( what ever that is) etc..

mcollinstn, Thank you for that info, I am feeling better and better about this option. The kit that was quoted to me has 5 settings. From 35 to 150 hp. And includes the fuel presure cut off switch you mentioned.

One more question boys, some of you have mentioned fuel increase needed when on the button. If this kit does not incorperate this will I have to do more mods? I have sent an e-mail to Nitrouseexpress asking the same. I just wanted to hear what you guys thought.

If you run a wet plate system, you don't need to do anything to add additional fuel thru the engine injectors.

Only drawback to a wet plate is that you shouldn't use it under 3000 rpm cause it can allow fuel to puddle in the intake at low revs. At speeds above 3000, there is no negative issues. I prefer this easy and cheap (think $275 for a single nozzle wet fogger system). All you gotta add is the bottle, the purge valve (a manual one is fine), the fuel pressure switch, and possibly a rpm module or throttle position microswitch.

For hp over 150, I'd go to a more comprehensive and expensive setup. For a 100 shot, you can be there for under $500.

This may be a little off subject but could nitrous be used soley to cool the intake charge as a substitute, or with an intercooler on a blown engine? I dont suppose it would be very cost effective, but if you were running say 5-6 lbs of boost regularly, and decided to run 8-10 on a poker run, a low dose of nitrous might cool it enough to keep things in check.
Just a thought

No. It is an oxidizer. The cooling effect is entirely secondary. Any addition of notrous requires a matching infusion of fuel. This results in a power adder, not a cooling agent.

Alcohol injection works well as a cooler, since its heat of vaporization is low and the act of evaporating removes heat. Have even heard of guys tossing around the idea of injecting liquid nitrogen in small doses to act as strictly a cooling agent and density increaser. Have not witnessed any try use of such and have no hard results to report.
