I've got OMC Cobras and it looks like I have to repower anyway.
What should I expect to pay if I try to find a decent pair of drives.
Obviously I will need the transom assy and some other merc stuff, but I want to get an idea what I am possibly looking at.
Thanks

Or Volvos.... if I switch to Volvos I can use the same transom assembly, and Volvos would spin either way.

Beware, teh counter-rotators are not as strong as "regular" alphas. I think they actually just changed a few things and run the thing in reverse. What this does is load the reverse bearing in a fashion that it was never made to support.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong, I havent tinkered with a counter rotating alpha for a while.

Hey Ratchet,
Thanks for the post. I have spoken to a guy I really trust, and he recommends Volvos, because they will bolt up to my transom assy with a different bell housing.
Saves me a bunch of BS as opposed to Alphas. A very good friend has a sweet '74 Donzi 24 with 2 sbc and volvos. I drove it this afternoon. I gotta say that those volvos with the direct cable link shift smoother than any Alpha I have ever touched.
It's got me thinkin. But even with a trade in allowance on my OMCs, I'm looking at $8k. And the boat is only worth about 16. ('87 Chris Stinger 260). But it gets an amazing amount of compliments and it's a wave crusher.

to make an alpha counter rotate you change to a counter rotating lower. I might be interested in selling my alpha 1s but at the end of the season..doug
