Stainless exhaust with silent choice
I have a stock 1996 502Mag with merc silent choice. Will switching to Stainless Marine exhaust and keeping the silent choice help at all or will I lose any benefits because of all the silent choice plumbing after the manifolds. If I had a straight shot out the back I am sure the new manifolds would help some, but I wonder if the diverter plate, even when open, will kill any potential gains.
Thanks,
Pismo

The silent choice should not affect you to any degree. You might loose a hp or two, but will never see it. The exhaust alone will only get you a couple of mph anyway, so don't worry about it. I ran a roller 454 w/procharger thru exhaust like that and had no problems. Go for it!!

Re: Stainless exhaust with silent choice
I put Gil manifolds on my 502 and kept the Captains Call. I picked up maybe 1 or 2 mph, but it sounded a lot better.
I don't know about the Stainless Marine, but I had to cut down the Captains Call units by about 1 1/2 inches to fit. Wanted to be able to put everything back to stock, so I bought another set of cut-outs and cut them instead.
