external mufflers for me.

Having to deal with that damn bull horn is a pain in the butt when you have to pull a motor.

...also, if there is no bull horn, you can run a real performance exhaust system without fear of reversion.

The sad trend is to outlaw and fine you for any kind of switchable exhaust. I guess that I would go for some kind of external system that I could upgrade to keep ahead of the "Noise Nazis". --- JP

My last boat had CMI and silent choice ... everthing leaked. I had to have the silent choice system rebuilt. It was a pain. On my new boat I now have stellings with GGB external clamp on's. The new combination is just great.

Check your local laws to see if they allow a switchable exhaust. You may just need a full time system to be legal.

Depending on engine size and Hp either Teague switchable muffler tips or GGB full time mufflers. The GGB set up should keep you away from tickets for some time in the future and make the ride in the cockpit much more pleasant.

I like the idea of the new type that switch after a certain RPM is reached. They are legal and do a good job. Lavorsi and I think GGB offer them. It was just a topic on here.

For my money, go with the thru hull. Had the merc silent choice on my scarab with a stock 330hp 454, saw lots of evidence of too much heat in the drive. Removed silent choice and replaced 330 with 550hp 454 and ran hard for last half of summer, barely any sign of heat in the drive. This has got to be better for the drive, plus it added a bunch of extra room in the engine compartment, making working around the engine alot more enjoyable. Will not be going back to silent anything, this new sound is just tooooo good!!!
