Re: Got the new 540 on the dyno today
Dick,
I guess 600 ++ foot pounds of torque will do that. I still have tons of work to do. I am trying to get most of it done before it gets too cold. I hate being out in the garage in the cold, even with the heat on, it just sucks. I can't wait 'till Spring to give it a rip.

HEY Vin,
awsome numbers for a N/A , definetely in the bravo eater zone! easy on the sticks and the teague set up should last, definetely want to try the p5 hydros awsome props, the new p5x round ears worked for me , I needed the bow lift of a round ear,not sure if the checkmate needs the bow lift, but throttle up is the place I use, matt and julie are excellent.what kinda of speed are you predicting?
Jim

Re: Got the new 540 on the dyno today
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the prop tips. I was figuring on going with the P-5. I also have used Throttle-Up in the past. I will be calling them again for this set-up. As far as top speed, I am not sure. I would guess a solid 80 should be in reach.
I recently got a worked XR Drive. I hope it holds up.

Do you have a dyno or I assume use one in Ok City or Tulsa area? I'm in Wichita and hope to start my new 540's this weekend. They sound like they're very close to what these other guys have. May use Stinnett in Emporia but I come to Tulsa and Ok City more often.
Thanks,
Don

Thanks. That's what I was guessing. I have one of Stans old Boss 496 Ford Hemi ProStock engines laying around still fresh from when I bought it. But I buoght a blower motor and Lenco for the race car before I ever used it so it just sits there... Probably se you down there this winter.

On a 509 what Cams have you guys concluded are the best for the AFR heads? I want to run them between 5500 and 5800 RPM. In playing around wit h the desktop dyno with the standard Crane Cams(741,731) the peak HP is up around 6500rpm. Does that jive with what you guys are getting on the real dyno. I'm using a 1050 dominator, 9.5:1CR, Stelling Exhaust.

Re: Got the new 540 on the dyno today
Swede,
You have to lower that peak number. It is too high. Maybe try to tighten up the duration a bit and see what it gives you. Before I actually dynoed this motor, I played with my desk top dyno also. I can tell you this, the numbers the desk top dyno gave me were close to actual numbers. The desk top dyno had my h.p. maxed at 660 @ 5500 rpm. Where the real dyno was 679 h.p. @ 5900 rpm. as for torque, my desk top dyno had me at 680 @ 4500 rpm, where dyno was 660@ 4700 rpm.
