Another good tip is to weld The timing chain gears in place. You don't want those suckers coming loose!

Ok.. true story. I used to work at a chevy dealership, squeak, leak and rattle man, any way a new mechcanic shows up and this guy is GOOD!! Well that was his opinion! I watched him use an impact wrench on the bottom end of a motor in the car on the hoist one day. I looked at him and I dont remember what I said, but it I did question him. I think he commented about how good he was and all. Well the car went out and a few days later, it came back it.. rattlin like a diesel!!! As they drove it back into his stall, he got all huffy, packed up his tool box and rolled it out to his truck.. I couldnt believe my eyes!! I didnt have the nads to ask him why he was leaving, because everyone was glad he was going!!
I am not sure what brand of impact he was using, but it went rat a tat tat.. when he was tightening those rod bolts.. ROTFLMAO!!!!

Once I read the wrong torque for some connecting rod bolts. I kept tightening and tightening and they wouldn't come up to the speced torque. I went back to the book and found I was working with the 5/16 instead of 3/8 con rods. I stretched them out almost a quarter inch.

I watched a "seasoned pro" rebuild an inline 6 merc with an air impact. Got all pissed off when I told him he really oughta use a torque wrench on it. Then he pointed to the dial on the bottom of the torque wrench and said "look, moron, here's where you set the torque..".

MRGADGETS, Maybe he forgot the red loctite. to bad the comeback came after he got paid for the bottom end job, thats probably why he quit. he got 1 paycheck ahead and thought it a good time to go...

I tighten mine up until one breaks, and then I don't turn the other ones that much.
Mr Gadgets, what kind of hammer do you use to pound in your valve lifters? A steel one or a plastic one? Like to use a great big claw hammer, but I'm open to suggestions.
