Howdy there, I just bolted on a pair of Edlebrock Oval Port Marine heads on my Gen 6 and installed a 502/502 GM cam. I have Crane Gold Roller Rockers ready to go but am having a heck of a time measuring for new pushrods. Does anyone have this configuration and or any ideas on what length they would be. Thanks, TR

buy a pushrod checking tool. don't depend on what worked in someone elses engine. jegs sells a decent one cheap.

I agree.. Every motor should be checked for proper push rod length. Buy a checker from any cam company , they are cheap enough. You won't be sorry.

There is another kind that takes all the guess workout of it but I cant find anything on it .

Just remember that you will have to find some calipers big enough to measure the push rod . most come in .050 mesurements. ck out the tech link I posted . it pretty easy .It will make a difference .

First decide on what lifter you are using, I assume it will be hydraulic roller. Go to the lifter manufacturer web site and they will tell you how much shorter push rods are used with there lifter. If I remember, BBC stock push rods are 8.25 & 9.25 length for hydraulic lifters. Rollers are shorter. Elderbrok heads use all stock location valve components so what is recommended should be right.

As mentioned above, you must check them. To do that, buy the push rod checker push rods. Rotate the engine to #1 firing position. Take a black marker pen & cover the top of both valve stems so they are black. Install the checker push rods at the length the web page tells you. The lifters need to be pumped up. Adjust both lifters. Rotate by hand the engine several times. Remove the rocker arms and you will see on the valve tip where the rocker is rolling on the tip. It should leave a mark about 1/8" wide and that needs to be in the center of the valve tip. If not change height and do it until you get it in the center of the valve tip.

Thanks very much for the help. I was using a homemade adjustable push rod but kept coming up with different measurements. This was no doubt due to the lifters not being pumped up and I was trying to watch the roller on the valve stem with a mirror instead of marking them. I will give it another go today. I will have some more questions about jetting the weber for this engine and perhaps installing a 454 mag module on the distributor.
