Re: The Pickwick Chronicles
Tough luck for the Cubans. During Saturday testing, they made a hard turn and flipped Tony Pachecco's Bad Boy OSSV boat. With the Cubans inside, the boat was sinking. As they got ready to dive through their new bottom hatch (the boat was upside down,) there was a knock on the window. Willy: "I said to Larry: 'My God, it's Bob Teague!" Bob was on a close-by turnboat, saw the accident, jumped in the water and swam to the sinking Bad Boys. The wet Cubans made a safe egress, and seconds later, all you could see was the bow of the boat.

Undeterred, Tony Pachecco, Will and Larry worked all night to get the Bad Boy up and running. They got it fixed, but the heavily damaged boat was declared unfit to race. Even tougher luck for the Cubans: Their OSSVL boat, which they also entered into the Pickwick race, broke down after having been in the number two position behind the incredibly strong Screaming Eagles. Hometown Racing looks very good. IMCO is becoming a contender. Disappointing: Laveycraft.

Even the parties are at least twice as good as last year. After the awards ceremony, and unencumbered by any further sobriety tests, OSS racers partied long into the Monday morning at Freddy T’s, right across from the sprawling Pier 57 compound.
