Default speed issues?

i am a beak owner, but a freind of mine has a 29 powerquest enticer fx, with 7.4x2 that are turning 23p mirage plus's @ 4800rpms and can bump rev limiter, his true gps speeds are 63-64mph, that just seems slow to me. when i do some math(went 2 public schools)lol. on the boat it looks like it should be turning 25's at those rpm's any help and or comparison from you other powerquest owners would be nice. what are the rest of you getting out of yours?

I test drove one last summer with the same power and hit 68mph on GPS. If I'm not mistaken it had mirage 23p. Don't recall the RPM's and all that stuff as it was pretty nasty on the bay so I had my eye's glued on the horizon and hands on the wheel and throttle.

I had a 98 enticer that I sold about 2 years ago that was all stock with 7.4s that were carbs. If I recall top g.p.s. speed was in the 67-69 range but my w.o.t. r.p.m. was around 4400-4500,which I believe Merc rates those engines for w.o.t. I thought my props were stainless 3 blade 25 p Mirage pluses.

He is turning too many RPMs and is out of the powerband of the motors. I would try a set of 25" Mirage Plus and get the RPM's at WOT down to 4,500 - 4,600. The max operating range of those motors is 4,200 - 4,600. He should be seeing 68 MPH GPS on top end. Buddy of mine has a '97 290 with 7.4's and that is what he runs.

The 310's were the norm. I've seen a a few with the mags but not many.

once again thank you, and it looks like my public school math still works, my buddy is going to get a set of 25p mirage's to try. what is the differnce between the mirage and the mirage plus? do the pluses have a cup, or does the diameter change?

I had the 29 PQ that K4M mentioned above and it has 25P Mirage Plus props. I think the plus is a diameter change but not sure. I know a set of standard 25P will not run as well because I swapped them once with a friend of mine who wanted to run the Miarage Plus on his boat. I can tell you the Enticer runs much better with the Mirage Plus props!

The Mirage Plus props are cupped. The boat will not run well with standard Mirage props.
