The stock Merc exhaust is pretty decent on the 496's. I've not tested any other brands of exhaust but I'd be surprised if there was much improvement over the stock exhaust with turbulators removed....

I don't really remember, but it's irrelevant as a reference, since the PCM was reprogrammed anyway. We didn't go much higher than stock so I would guess around 45 PSI. No where near the 50 required...

I've not heard of any problems. Obviously Merc puts them there for a reason. Removing them increases the chances for moisture to work it's way back up the exhaust at idle.
