I would also not chosen to cut a crank, but I did not feel those benefits outweighed not cutting the crank. I checked with a couple people/machine shops and the responses were that many stock cranks...

Yes i still ground the crank. there was almost .0008 difference
between journal 1 and 4. Machine shop said it makes no difference where thicker bearing is placed, what is your logic?

Bill after some more checking,and remeasuring I decided to regrind the crankshaft, cheap insurance.
p.s. the difference in my shop when the heater was blowing on the engine stand and when it was...

talked to machine shop today,same explanation as you Bill. rear is usually under .001-.002. larger bearing surface to support crank/oil for thrust surfaces. he did say he would not
run clearances...

Plasti- gauge gets a bad rap. i am pretty confident on my measuring, should have the plastic! thanks for the reply. I will doubl check tommorow then start mixing and matching halves

is this acceptable? Just got all my parts back from the machine shop and after cleaning i started double checking
measurments. The gen IV crank measured from bearing 1-5
: 1=2.749 2=2.7485 3=...
