This is not true and the point of the thread. Some states do not charge sales tax on instate private party transactions. Nor does documenting always get you out of all taxes/registration fees.

Document the boat during the purchase and you won't pay sales tax or registration fees.

Kentucky is the same way. Private party - private party = no sales tax. BUT the registratration sticker will cost 1% of the boat's value annually as a "property tax."

My guess is if AZ doesn't...
