But for reliability? Im talkin about taking the 30' across the gulfdtream from florida to the bahamas, alone, in a single. Diesel, no? Or a good radio and sea tow coverage.

For less $ you could just run twin small block EFIs.
Twins for reliabilty. 1 diesel can die too.
And it would be better on resale.
A diesel w/ drive will be all of 35,000.
With all that torque it would be nice to spin a big prop. Probably bigger than most drives will allow.

You think twin sb's would cost less than 35k, drives and all? steering? how about maintenance and replacement parts?

320HP/6.2L Bravo packages sell for around 15K.
Twin ram, full hydraulic steering cost about 6K.
The cost is basically a wash so it's a matter of preference...

$32k for the 400hp engine.
$13k for the drive and tranny.
So thats 45K.
So you would have 10k less in a twin SB.
Plus you'll know what you have... its been done.
