585hp is a good number for a 496 with that combo.Im thinking more like 685.With a bigger prop this should increase my cruising speed. It was 3000rpm for 50mph if Im remembering correctly.

Pat I spoke to a friend today who knows engines very well and he told me with over 600 lift in a roller I will have to change the lifters about every 50 hrs to be on the safe side. The spring pressure puts a hurtin on them.So now Im looking at a flat tappet .I dont mind checking valve lash,When I bought the boat in 2002 it had 45 hrs and after 2 seasons it now has 86 hrs.

I have heard the same ZZ.
I am staying with the max lift that GM uses in there ZZ502, 0.541inch. That way I can stay with stock GM lifters...
My cam spec. 0.541/0.541 lift, 229°/229°@0.050, 114LSA.
This cam is made specifically to replace the cam in 454 and 502mag / HO engines.
I am told 40-50HP over stock, and the engine will make power to about 5200rpm. The stock cam dies at about 4600...
ZZ is your engine a Gen 6 roller motor?
If so, I would stay with a roller.
Comp cams, Crower, and Lunati make a number of Gen 6 cams now that have a good amount of duration with lift under 0.600". Lunati quoted me a custom grind cam for about $300. Crower and Comp will also grind anything you want, but for about $400.

Hey steamfitter,

I still have the boat. I'm not 100% sure I want to sell it at this point. My email address is [email protected] if you want to chat about it.

Hey ZUPERBOAT, WOW your boat is absolutely awesome. My membership just became valid and I can now see all the pics....THATS what I want my boat to look like!!! The seats, the gauges, everything!! Nice job. My boat has all red vinyl I mean really RED! Some day I would like to change it over to white but all the vinyl is still in good shape. -JOE/30SUPER
