Weight Distribution Hitch
Which weight distribution hitch do you use? Is there any real difference, beyond capacity? I have a Reese Titan V on the truck and need a nice match.
Why is it that so many people towing big boats do not use this type of hitch? I see a lot of travel trailers set-up correctly to handle the weight, but few boats. Is it that so many trailers still have surge brakes? Just wondering.

Re: Weight Distribution Hitch
Yes, precisely. The main reason is that most boat trailers use surge brakes....you can't use a weight distributing hitch with surge brakes. With electric or electric over hydraulic, weight distributing makes the most sense to eliminate rear-end sag and bouncy rides, not to mention increased stability.

Re: Weight Distribution Hitch
Nick, sorry, but you are 100% INCORRECT.
You can, and I do use a WD hitch with Surge Brakes. You CANNOT use ANTI-SWAY Control HITCH Bars (tiny ball to side of main ball) with surge brakes. See this thread for just about all you want/need to know:

Here is a link for the system I use, and it has SWAY control.

Insurance denied claim.
Until now Sway Control has also escaped the boat towers grasp. Traditional add on sway products limit or distort the amount of front to back movement and render surge brakes useless or even dangerous. The Original Equal-i-zer® Sway Control Hitch allows anyone with surge brakes to have the benefit and comfort of 4-Point Sway Control™.

"Equal-i-zer®'s unique sway brackets allow total compatibility with surge brakes."
A traditional WD setup does not work well with surge brakes.
