I like the idea since I owned a 33 Sonic with triples. I t was not the fastest but always liked the extra cockpit room. Todays technology in OB's will make reliabilty much better than I delt with. Remember not everyone wants cookie cutter offshore boat with regards to IO power.

Wasn't there an Active Fish 33 CC at one time ???

YUP! YUP! YUP! Now you're talkin'! Not to bash all the "700 / staggered 850" talk, cuz' there is really nothing sweeter than that sound, :D BUT... For example, those of us up here in the NE, our season is short - what, maybe 5 - 6 mo. (if we don't take it south for the winter)? So, time is of the essence - toss in a blown drive or worse, a blown motor and you're sitting on the dock waiting for a call and a big-ole repair bill. Down time is not-so-fun, and it seems that you are always reading about blown drives, blown motors, bad rebuilds, etc... boating is all about time ON the water, running and having fun. Now, add in the rising cost of insurance and fuel and dang, this becomes an expensive sport / hobby! (No, this didn't just occur to me - hehe). So, if you have a builder like AT offering you a truly custom boat, any way you want it - I say HELL YA! A 28' with a pair of 300's on it - for the boating we do (27 mi. long lake) would be the ballz! Two bolsters, "U-shaped" rear seat, smaller - but useable - sun pad, big cockpit, great fuel economy, low maintenance, cheaper insurance, no noise issues... see a pattern building here? Yeah, you give up the rumble and some top-end, but you gain - in my oppinion - a whole lot! And no matter who you are, if you appreciate performance boats and you see a 37' AT, all tricked out with 3 egg-beaters on the back pull up to a dock, you're still gonna be wowed by it! Like someone else mentioned, I used to love the old Sonics with the O/B's, growing up we had one on our lake with (4) Merc's on it - it was a head-turner for sure!
So, I say build it Pat! You'll sell it and many more like it to guys that have "been there - done that" with the high HP I/O's, but still want the look, the ride, a healthy top end and none of the head aches that they had before. Mark. |
I thought the ActiveFish was designed by the guy who designed the 35 Marlargo and wanted to build his own 31 foot version but had financial problems and Pat got the molds and built a few and then sold molds to someone in West Palm.
There is an ActiveFish I see often at a yacht club in Pensacola. |
Any of you A/T guys that are computer artist want to take a stab at showing us what a 37 AT with 3 OB's would look like ???

When you open OSO website the new news is Steve Stepp/Velocity is going to do this also.
They are calling them "crossover" boats. The picture in the article is a nice looking boat. |

Hey now .... This is starting to get me excited again !?!??!?!
|
I think all of Steve's hulls except the smallest are "offshores"
A 39 with removable seats and benches for fishing and quick change to pop-in/pop-out for poker runs and nothing in the cockpit for diving trips or one's late night cruises off the Marquesas or Haiti. Side panels made of fiberglass for hosing down same as sole. Like a Cayanne ..shopping..racing..offroad or picking up the soccer team...all at speed with reliable O.Bs Again the 28 and a 37 would make great models. If we could only have inter-changeable decks. |

Attachment 294572 Attachment 294573 Attachment 294574 Rather have a 33 with a bigger sunpad now that AT's have a possibility for beaters:circle: :party-smiley-020: |
I agree with them!
a 33 would be great with tripple 300's I have been thinking this for a while especially for us in New England we need to get use of our short season . drive & motor problems can really mess it up. I was thinking of going to a center console because nobody is doing this yet, actually spoke with R sutphen last august on doing a sport deck 31 with 2 300's but things don't seem to work out, they will not take trades. I say build them! the industry is heading this way, some people want NO HEADACES & I/O's :signs069: :signs069: I would give up a little sound for usage! Get some going before Reggie starts & takes all the credit! |
I can tell you that Concept had their 1st sport deck with twin 300xs outboards at the Miami Show and people were all over that boat!!!
|
What is the boat in post #32, looks sharp to me! I think the Concept 30 Sport deck looks interesting also except they might want to consider putting a couple of hatches in the cabin for ventilation. Steve

Whats the latest on the O/B 37 ?
|
There's something about following that graceful line of an offshore powerboat from the bow down the spine right into the water at the rear (aft?). Outboards seem to screw up "that" look, they look great on center consoles though! But who doesn't want more cockpit room? Especially on smaller boats. But which idea is more technologically advanced?
Anyway, can someone answer this question: Take two identical boats, 24' Panteras. Put a 496 Mag in one boat and a 300XS on the other boat. Which one will be fastest? |

Marks going to have to dig through his garage now to find all his bungee cords. 3 per motor & 1 for the throttles, I think thats how it works isn't it Mark ???

Seriously, we are open to anything. We've got something in the works for a 28 w/ Twins. |

Me two, someone build one so then I can buy it used!!!!!!! |
Would a 37AT have more resale than a 33?
How about performance? Fuel Efficiency?Cabin and cockpit space? A 33 w/ twin 300 Verados or a 37 w/ triple 300 Verados? |
Wouldnt bother with outboards. Real performance boaters want big Merc power! Build the 43 already with a pair of 1075s or 850s!
|
I want a family go fast, I/O's to much work and take up to much space. OB give more

How about performance? Fuel Efficiency?Cabin and cockpit space? A 33 w/ twin 300 Verados or a 37 w/ triple 300 Verados? What are YOU planning to do with YOUR boat? That will best define which boat is right. The 33AT and 37AT have the EXACT same cockpit specs with the IO. The OB version would allow for a MASSIVE cockpit in the 37, (think school bus style bolster potential :D). The 33AT OB would be big too. However, boating in Ft. Lauderdale, I'd only go with a 37 w/ triples (OBs). The current 33AT and 37AT IO boats will come up on plane with one engine, and run home at 30ish mph, depending on load/setup. If you have a triple OB 37AT, you ought to be able to do the same on just two of them, again, depending on the situation. With a twin OB 33AT, and an issue with 1 of them, you are idling home w/ only 300HP & 1 powered prop. 5 year FREE warranty on the new Mercury Verados is not a bad dealio either. Don't expect that to last forever. |
I want to be able to do a poker run, take family and friends out for the day or dinner, spend a night or two on it with my wife, trailer it anywhere, and then park it in my warehouse to look at while I work to pay for it............
