The boat docks fine, and the owner does not have any complaints with the Arneson.

I only have 1 season on my boat and the best I saw was about 71 GPS with my 525/XR/labbed 26P. I just got my prop back from BBLADES again and hope to see better. I never really did get to run it in optimal conditions last year though(1-2 foot chop, low fuel, 1 person). Handling is awesome, especially in choppy seas.

He says the same thing about rough water. Its good but smooth water the hook is a problem.

See if you can gain 15 mph by removing the hook.

No K-planes or tabs? Doug

Sydwayz 04-25-2009 07:33 AM

It sounds like a Mustang GT going by. :D

Speed, now that is something I know. After the HOOK was removed from the bottom it ran 86 at the end of last season (December full of fuel) but now the propellers we have are wrong as we were compensating for the HOOK:mad:

They will be running it again I think some time soon, I don't know the weather conditions in DE so I cannot comment but there is promise and hope now that the bottom was addressed. Goal is 90 but I can remember before the hook was removed the goal was 80:eek:

The boat docks fine, gets on plane well, steers great, yada yada yada. He had some engine minor engine issues and then the bottom hook removal made all the difference. I think if it had a bit of Rocker in the bottom it would hit the 90 easily and then some.

Hp?

A hook, drives tucked in, the tabs all the way down and 4 fat chicks (I'm talking huge) won't scrub 15 mph off the boat.

Well there was, past tense, a 1/4" hook in the last 18" of the boats bottom. AT told him it was nothing to be concerened with. I convinced him to remove it and the rest is history.

Yes 15 mph differnece. Can't argue with facts.

ActiveThunder 04-26-2009 07:35 PM

Well, if that was the only adjustment made I am amazed. If the engine and prop remained exactly the same then I retract the fat chicks remark.

Perhaps the surface drive changes charecteristics. I know on the Pulse Drive the 22 had a small hook but it was the DDC bottom and it scrubbed a little less than 5.

chuckbeecher 04-26-2009 08:42 PM

I know someone who had a 32 baja about 15 yrs. ago and they took the hook out and it sped up but what a sh*tty ride ...the faster you went the more it porpoised and needed more and more tab to keep the bow somewhere near level..so there went your speed gain..so it's best not to f*ck with the designers design..but you can feel free to argue the factories x demensions sometimes:p

ActiveThunder 04-26-2009 08:56 PM

Yeah but the newer 28 is the old 32 hull so it doesn't need the hook to ride.

But I have to say the older 28 hull with twins got my attention a few times!

Yea, two guys, one guy empty on fuel went 69 no matter what propeller he tried. Jess put every cleaver combination, rake, diameter, pitch, # of blades. Then I made a new thrust tube to put a Bravo 1 propeller and a Maximus and the boat was stuck at 69. Utter failure.

Then I asked about the bottom, he was very reluctant to touch it as he has never done anything to fiberglass before. All he did was take a grinder and take the hook out and the last 18" of the boat it put a smile on his face "Full of Fuel" with two people!!

Now the 22' you refer to. If its the same one a father and son run I think out of the Mid West, then that boat does not like the Shoel drive according to them. Had the 28' been made with a step or Rocker, then things would have been a lot faster a lot sooner as far as a Surface Drive application is concerned.

Rik said the target was 90 mph, did he make it? Doug

Gladhe8er 07-01-2009 03:13 PM

Have you made it in the water yet Doug?

audacity 07-01-2009 10:17 PM

1/4 of hook alone was worth 15 mph!:bsflag:
