are there any problems running the drive guard? does it change the speed or handling at all

Not supposed to. Just cover the prop and stop the roost I think.

It would be interesting to see how it worked. Maybe I could try that on the Scarab How would a single surface drive handle around the dock?

Should be fine. The prop is back far enough that it wouldnt be pushing too much water on the transom....
