33' AT Questions.
I've been shopping for a 35' boat over the last couple of months and many here on OSO have said look at the 33' AT. I have a few questions, and thought I would start here.
How fast is the 33 with 525's? Is the cabin really as roomy as they look on the brochure (anybody have measurements?) The cockpit looks like it's also roomy (can you ride 5 or 6 comfortably?) Is the fit and finish what others say it is on an AT. What other brands would you compare the AT to? Anybody have pics they can share? Unfortunately, there are no AT dealers in my area, so I'm trying to gather as much information as I can to determine if I want to buy a plane ticket and fly to a dealer. Thanks ahead of time! |
Check your PM;s...we spoke a while back.

Tom,
Good to see you back again. The 33 and 37 have the EXACT same cockpit measurements. The cabin is a tad shorter, as is the engine room. Basically, the 33 is a 9/10s scale of the 37. I have been out with as many as 9 people in the cockpit of a 37. That should answer your question if 5-6 are comfortable. The 6th drop in bolster is the ticket for long (poker) runs. There are a couple of 33s already out there. Do a search on "slboatdrinks" (Steve) here on OSO, and his pics; as well as pics by "OCDACTIVE". Steve owns the first 33AT and is very accessible here. 525s gives you 92mph reliably with 5 years of worry free boating powertrain warranty. I'll leave it to others to comment on the fit and finish and comparisons. Measurements: 50" of freeboard at front of cockpit 48" of freeboard at front bolster 49" bolster height 42" of freeboard at rear seat Cockpit width is 72" Cockpit length is 81" from cabin door to front of backseat 31" between back of front bolsters and front of backseat. (Bolster placement can be adjusted) 62" wide backseat 13" between the pullies and front engine room bulkhead (lots of room for maintenance) 3" between headers Underbackseat storage is 90" wide by 21" long The cabin door is 22" x 44" The headroom in the deepest portion of the head is 67" The entry door into the head is 45" x 22" wide, and is about 10" from the floor. There are 11 defined storage compartments in a standard cabin, but that can be adjusted. The V-berth is 74" long and 69" wide at its widest point. Mean width is 40". The port couch is 90" long, which can also be adjusted. The starboard couch is 70" long. When you enter the cabin, you have just shy of 66" of headroom. When you are laying on the couches, you have 38" of headroom. When you are laying in the V-berth, you have 30" of headroom. What else do you want to know? I can measure the circumference of the head seat too if you want. :D |
How fast is the 33 with 525's? 92+
Is the cabin really as roomy as they look on the brochure (anybody have measurements?) yes, it will be the most roomy in your foot range The cockpit looks like it's also roomy (can you ride 5 or 6 comfortably?) 6 with third bolster. 7 if you have 4 girls in the back. Is the fit and finish what others say it is on an AT. Yes, fit and finish is one of the top 5 in the deep V category. Its top tier compared to the large production manufactures like Donzi, Fountain, Baja. Remember the AT is 100% custom. It will be as nice as your wallet will let it be. What other brands would you compare the AT to? Nothing... Amenities like a Nortech or Sonic, rough water capability is best in class foot for foot, similar to the rough water ride of a Cigarette or Apache with regard to stability but different because the boat will not launch given the design of the AVH bottom, Cockpit depth better than Cig, not as deep as a 39 Nortech. Anybody have pics they can share? Steve or Pat may have some. I can safely say it is the best sub 37 foot boat on the market. There is not a lot of compition anymore sub 37 in the V catagory. |
Lots of pics here:

OCDACTVE,
Thanks for your input. If the main difference is the engine compartment between the 33 and 37, does that mean the sunpad is fairly small on the 33? If your pics are on OSO anywhere, I think I've seen them. Thanks for offering them up though. |

Here is an overhead shot of a 37 vs. 33.
Notice the headrests on the 33 are long and swept, compared to the headrests on (ACTIVESHACK's) 37. We can set it up anyway you like. That's why AT is a custom builder. :D |
I live in Smyrna, TN outside of Nashville and have a 2002 37' AT. PM me your phone number if you would like to come up and look at the cockpit and the cabin. It would be a short trip for you and you could get an idea of the layout. You will not be disappointed with the AT. I looked at other brands for awhile before I bought mine. Plus the CULT is a great group of people!

Well, I'd chime in, but you boys seemed to have summed it up for him pretty well. :D
|
Just reading OCD's post made me tired!!:p
Hey Steve.....its close brutha!! Real close...I may have to cut tomorrow short at work and get rested.:D |
I don't know if anybody mentioned it but you have a choice of side or center entry for the cabin. The side entry gives you a much bigger head compartment and more privacy at the dock because no one can look straight into the cabin.
|
Tom,
I just talked to Pat on the schedule for the next couple boats to hit the water. We should have another new 33 in the water in the next few weeks. Call me, and we'll take care of your airfare to come down and check it out. Yes, I am that damned confident. |

Just a matter of personal preference. |

I've towed down from Massachusetts for the past 2 years to attend this event. :D |
Rick (GT) is our neighbor, and MS's former brother-in-law.
He just needs pull out the stick and put the check in the mail. He put about 6800 hours on the boat in his first year... what's 6 more? ----------- And back to the subject at hand... Anyone who buys a new Active Thunder from today forward, and takes delivery before or at the 2008 Jammin' on the James Poker Run, will get a free entry into said Poker Run. OK, Tom, how about 'dem apples? |
The dash design on the active thunder is really nice.

Make sure to get the sliding door though...:angry-smiley-038: |

Nothing to do with the 33, just making discussion. Steps on your dash? Nah..... |

Totally Agree.. just making convo.... I saw some other one as well. (center entry) that on the far left corner, next to the passenger, left of the glove box, almost on the 45, there were holes or gunnels built into the side, a ladder (but didn't look like a ladder) that allowed you to climb the side and get to the walk-around platform.. I wish I had a pic.. That one was better then the door one because it wasn't an eyesore and that corner is usually not utilized space. Not sure if anyone else has seen it.. I will do some digging for a pic. (oh sorry Hi-jack in progress :D:evilb:)

I would probably have to go with the 37 design or maybe eliminate the headrest all together. |

Great to have the option, but I would probably go the more traditional route, center opening. |

You may have noticed that Flenner from Nashville offered to give me a tour of his 37. I would feel more comfortable driving the 2 hours to see his first, then fly down to see the 33. I don't want you guys to be out $$$'s unless I'm fairly certain the 33 is the one. |

When you say the other 33, do you mean there are only two 33' AT's that have been made? If so, how on earth can half of OSO be recommending one?
By the way, Remedy is one bad a$$ looking boat!! PM me if you want the real facts on the 33. There are only 2 out there so far and I have #1. Steve |

One other thing about your offer......as I mentioned in my original post, I've been trying to decide on a 35' boat for about 3 months now. It absolutely amazes me that other dealers act as if they don't care if they sell a boat or not. Come on, we're talking 200-230K+!!! I've been waiting since Monday for a dealer to get back to me on some very basic information. No follow-up whatsoever. I don't see how they ever sell a boat. Anyway, thanks for the follow-up and the offer to fly me down. It seems that customer service may be another reason to go with AT. |
Tom, there are 2-33s built to date. There are 2 more in the hopper.
How can so many be so confident in how well the 33 performs? Remember the 33 is 90% of the 37. The 37 is set up "right". Tweaking the balance and accouterments into the 33 package was relatively easy. Last winter we took 4 37s and 2 33s and 1 28 (including ActiveShack, crb76, myself, and LiquidThunder, the light blue/green 33, and slboatdrinks; boatfreak was in his then owned 28)... from Pompano to Key Largo and Islemoralda. The trip down was GREAT. The trip back got hairy in the last 40 miles or so out in the ocean. There were 5-8s and bigger out there, and the only thing the 33 didn't do that the 37 did do was span the bigger gaps, which is obvious by its length. The boats ride and handle EXACTLY the same. Chris, I want to personally thank you for your offer of showing your boat to Tom. Tom, one thing to remember about Chris' boat... In 2003 AT changed the deck from more of a flat deck like Chris' 2002 37, to more of a curved deck on the 2003 and newer boats. Without a "trained eye" you really can't tell the difference, but its there. The 33's deck was modeled after the new 37 deck, and is going to have some more room in the cabin height wise than Chris' boat; as well as the fact that Chris' boat is a center entry. Chris' boat was built with an EXTREMELY light layup per the original order. Also about 1/2 of the "stuff" done to/installed in Chris' boat was done by James 'excursion' on OSO. He did a fantastic job on that boat. |
Is there an echo in here?:D
Is it saturday morning yet?:party-smiley-004: |
#3 is on the floor in rigging and #4 is in the molds.
The 37s out sell the 33 about 8 to 1 which is a good thiing for my wallet. :D |

Tom,
I'm at my boat right now doing a little cleaning (I'm a neat freak). I'll PM you my phone number. I don't know what my wife has in store for us this afternoon. We have a babyshower tomorrow. Call me and we'll work something out. |
