So what's your take on fuel?

Just curious how much is in your budget for fuel on a weekend?

$200.00-$300.00 depending on where we go. Another reason I love this boat, run 50-55mph all weekend and rip it a few time to teach someone a lesson and the tank lasts a good while.:D

Gladhe8er 05-24-2008 06:10 AM

1/2 a tank or 50 gallons is my estimate, so thats a little over $200.

GoodTymn 05-24-2008 06:48 AM

What's a budget?

Macklin 05-24-2008 07:36 AM

I used to tell folks who asked how much it cost for a weekend that it was about the same as two rounds of golf at one of the nicer courses in the area.

Not anymore...even for a day...

never satisfied1 05-24-2008 07:45 AM

where the heck do all of you live.,....
try $500 to $800 for a long day on the water. fuel here is at $5.40 a gallon for super.

excursion 05-24-2008 07:54 AM

My boat takes 280 gal. to fill up and hopefully that will be enough.
We sit idle for about half the year so when summer is here, burn it up every weekend.

slboatdrinks 05-24-2008 07:58 AM

I fill up on land every chance I get.

$500.00 got me 130 gallons at $3.88/gal. I might be 3/4 full....

One day later the price jumped to $3.92/gal.

Right now, $500.00 is my budget for the month. :(

Jassman 05-24-2008 08:10 AM

200 a weekend..we dont go out to eat as much FRI-Sun..so it works it self out..I find myself using the Albury Brothers CC more..34mph yeilds 3gph...vs 58mph yeilding 1.42gph on the Nor-Tech...

Pat..the diesel Nor-Tech was'nt such a bad idea now.:hitfan::D

Pretty much the same here. Unless our house sells and we buy the new house over off Chicks Beach we have a contract on. That will be a win / loose proposition. :(

However much I can fit on your credit card. Why do you think I changed the subject when you asked for it back? :evilb:

nova26 05-24-2008 10:43 AM

100gal tank, I use to try to guess how much I was going to boat and put that much in. Then you end up want to stay out and end up buying gas at the dock kicking my self in the ass for not filling it while it was on the trailer.:grinser010:

Quicksilver 05-24-2008 02:12 PM

You could always get one of those portable (if you consider 60 gallon tank on wheels) fillers and make a couple rounds to the gas station. j/k, we do that at the lake since theres no station on the lake, regular fuel prices since you fuel up at a gas station but its a ***** getting that thing out of the truck and then rolling it through grass and then all the way down the dock :D

I am more of an event/ destination boater which alleviates gas cost but increased travel cost. I don’t boat every weekend. I spent about 40K boating last year (boat note, insurance, PROPS, maintenance, storage, entry fees, towing, hotels, food, ect). I would probably come close to spending that much without a boat traveling. Fuel cost was 5K. I also paid an average of 4 bucks per gallon because I fill up on the water in Florida a lot in the winter. This year I will be more conscience to full up on the street. There are not more lap trips around Clear Lake just for fun. Also, a lot of the gas expense was subsidized by people boating with me. I do the same when riding. When I do poker runs, we always split the cost of the event equatably. For example, last year Key West was about $1K for fuel. We split it 4 ways at $250 each. Airfare was $213 per person. I rather do it by boat!

As chuckbeecher taught me growing up,” son, you can’t take it with you”!

Let’s talk again if it gets to 8 bucks per gallon. I might change my mind. Interesting article below.

The cost of fuel has caused me to put my Boat/RV storage facility on hold for a while. I want to see what new unit sales do to give me an indicator of demand. 280 gallons of $4.00 a gallon high test does make one pause to think if this is still fun. I do like my little Concept outboard. 60 gallons of $3.60 a gallon 87 does not seem as bad in contrast.

GO4BROKE 05-24-2008 08:13 PM

$600 per month.

R Addiction 05-24-2008 10:11 PM

$130.00 today:party-smiley-004:

I think his real cost was SHIPPING!!!!!!!!!!
shipping all those PROPS:D:D
I hope he has the CORRECT one now 'cause with the rising cost of jet fuel his UPS/FEDEX cost are going to skyrocket:D

Always remember a simple fact:
7-8 mpg (towing with new diesels) is always better than 1.4 on the water.
Tow that mother to Marathon ..correction.. tow to Sugarloaf then splash and still make your GRAND entrance to Key West Harbor.
or
Hide in the Mangroves and wait for Stu's group to come by and jump in the back of the pack..that where you would be any way:D kind of like the guy that lurks in the bushes near the finish of the marathons.:grinser010:
I am sitting here in Lauderdale/Hollywood area and a lot of different boats out on the ocean and in the ditch..alot of eggbeaters..my type motors for the times.

boatfreak 05-25-2008 07:32 AM

Well I'm back a Lake Cumberland again this weekend and I am still running on the 400 bucks I put in it a feww weeks ago but I had the big blocks singing yesterday so that will be gone when I leave here later today and now 93 is about $4.15-$4.20 on the street here so you do the math on what the next fill up will cost me.:(

Good to see you're getting those break in hours on the new motors. :D

camptappakeg69 06-02-2008 04:55 PM

So far this season = $0

Hopefully spalsh this weekend, normally last year I tried to top off the tank every time I came off the water(always trailer to the lake). Usually spent $75-$100 every weekend that was nice.

michigan troll 06-03-2008 08:53 AM

Finally fired ours up on the hose last night. Every thing checked OK. Then I noticed the fuel gauge, the light was on and showing maybe 1/8 of a tank. Going to be an expensive first time out. I need to run Premium. Ouch.

THUNDER-STRUCK 06-03-2008 09:12 AM

It was always a lot for me seems like around $500 a weekend, the hour of manatee zones never helped. I have decided the next boat will be a 30-32 cat with eggbeaters. I will miss IO's, but I put a 172 hours on my boat last year and that translated to a lot of 93 octane. Let me hit that lottery and I will take a 43 with 1075's :D

TexomaPowerboater 06-03-2008 04:13 PM

I can get two weekends out of $250. Twin 454's 460hp. Easy to conserve gas on a lake.

idoling maybe.

TexomaPowerboater 06-03-2008 06:52 PM

Call me crazy, but after some post I've read and my personal experience..........I think a 28 with twins (any boat) gets better fuel consumption than a 28 single. So long as your not WOT all day. :hitfan:

Paid 3.79 - no ethanol (OK)

460lbs of torgue at 3100rpm helps.

Thunderstruck 06-03-2008 08:03 PM

I made two weekends on $200 but not a lot of high rpm operation. OK one or two WOT blasts. :p Actually OK to ride around our area at 40 mph or so. Definitely makes a difference on fuel. Actually starting to get some folks out on the water in our area. Not many boats out since our hurricane but our economy is doing well with 6 refineries within 50 miles plus the offshore drilling.

THUNDER-STRUCK 06-04-2008 08:43 AM

I have been giving that some thought probably pretty soon. I will give you a call later in the week and see what sounds good.

socalstone 06-04-2008 05:11 PM

No budget yet. But it's impossible to ignore how expensive it's getting.
I filled up last thursday on the water and it was $5.00 a gallon.
Don't plan on letting up yet, but my habits will likely begin to shift - towards less run time/more chill time.

Either that or I'm going to bust out the jetboat more often. The 454 sips gas compared to a 600sci.

I feel for you guys with twins.
