ActiveThunder 09-24-2008 12:41 PM

Maybe next year if you still have yours. This w/end looks like a wash with all the rain. I might run it on the sound on the 4th, but after that it goes to Lake George for winter storage.

Happy belated and I hope fatherhood is treating you well. I'm sure you're down on sleep!

R Addiction 09-25-2008 01:48 AM

WOW!! Maybe I'll start my own boat company:p

What ever happened to the molds for the 25 Tantrum?

michigan troll 09-25-2008 11:33 AM

Is the Active 28 no longer in production, or is a new model in the works?

The market has shifted to strong turnkey singles. The 25 and 28 could have been great sellers for the AT line. I wish I had the means to build boats ..... I would snatch up both molds. The old 25 has been retired to a CC model. :(

What happened with the pre 04 molds?

It was strictly the hull mold which we derived from our 31 Center Console one night over beers. The deck is the same for either vintage. And then another night while we were drinking beers we came up with the idea to use the 32 V-bottom mold with a dam to make it a 28.

You can buy mine in a year or two. I'll keep it in nice shape:drink:

I know AT only builds 1-2 28's a year, so yeah, it's probably more worthwhile to use resources elsewhere.

outriggers 09-26-2008 10:26 PM

I always liked that boat. :drink: Patrick, The boat in the e-bay ad ,Was that the last 28 made? Doug

What name are the CC's being marketed under and any pictures or website?

outriggers 09-27-2008 11:18 AM

I think there are very few buiders out there that can really do this hull justice. Doug

No website and not being marketed to potential. Only 1 or 2 have been built. If I have a pic on file I will post it.

The 22' went fishing years ago!

Gordo 10-01-2008 05:41 PM

<sniff sniff> But, But, the 25???
The 25 Thunder was never intended to chase fish.
The 25 Active Thunder was a Legend!
It was a Velocity-spanker !!!
A Fountain killer!!!
A Checkmate-smacker!
A Formula-whupper!

(Whupper? forget it. He's on a roll...)

Mike, sorry buddy. The molds were pretty tired.

Kinda like a race horse being retired to a carnival giving pony-rides, isn't it?

What exactly does it mean when you say the mold got "tired?" Do molds lose their shape/rigidity over time?

They get worn out. You can only pull so many hulls from one mold.

The tooling gel goes to **** over the course of time. Those molds were made in 1990.

R Addiction 10-03-2008 11:34 AM

Another reason to keep my "collectors item". Not another 25ft boat I'd rather be on.

..............YEAH, but..............new molds could be pulled from an existing hull to keep such a loved little offshore performer alive....with the state of the economy, wouldn't building more affordable single engine boats be a viable option??? They could even run with brackets and egg beaters. I'm sure there are alot of people out there that would love to own a 33 or 37 but just can't afford one (or the gas for that matter). But then again, Pat, what do I know??? I'm still in this stinking car business!!!!

R Addiction 10-04-2008 06:47 PM

Well said Steve. I'd love to be able to go out and buy a new 28 or a 32 straight "V". Not that I don't love the 33's and 37's its just not in the $$ cards for me right now.:p
