thanks pat

thruhull looks like a dead ant battery huh?

SCARAB98 05-27-2009 08:52 AM

Mine did not work this week end .Stuck on 30 mph.Does anybody where the ant is located..Did not see it in the helm area.

Sydwayz 05-27-2009 10:59 AM

I've got the same problem.

Thunderstruck 05-27-2009 12:10 PM

I had same prob it was the antenna battery. gaffrig won't work on the antenna. Livorsi fixed mine for $75 but there is a guy on another thread who fixed his for $3 himself.

Called gaffrid they said buy new one $215.Tomorrow going to try to change battery. It doesn't look like its going to be hard.If can't do it i will send it Livorsi.

yzbert 05-28-2009 06:15 AM

is that the antenna?

ActiveThunder 05-28-2009 07:52 AM

Tom,

Let us know how you do it. I talked to Ed yesterday and wanted me to send the one I have here back as well.

I am amazed that in one week we have at least 5 with failures here. It would have been nice if we were told these had batteries that would crap out after a few years because we certainly would have mounted them in a more accessable area. It's probably in the fine print somewhere.....

I'm told the new ones don't have batteries so the issue goes away.

Mine was broken when I bought the boat. My brother's was broken on his Fountain when he bought his as well...He just spent $200 I think for the new antenna and/or battery. I just bought a handheld GPS unit that I mounted to the dash. It gives me speeds/top speed recall and directions.

Macklin 05-28-2009 11:36 AM

Could this have happened on one as new as mine? I noticed mine stop working on my way in last weekend.

Here the new battery cost $3:90 Batterys plus has them you need to tell them to put the tabs on the battery. They said they would install it for $10.But I'am going to solder mine tomorrow. One my friends bring in his solder sucker solder pencil.I will let everybody if it fixes the problem.

epeek 06-07-2009 10:02 PM

Mines dead also. What a crap setup.I couldn't get the
proper battery so I tried soldering in a regular 3v wafer
battery. I still didn't work. I will get the proper battery
and install it next weekend.

Sydwayz 06-07-2009 10:55 PM

Pat, we need some help. I have not chased mine down yet, but I told Scott/yzbert where you told me to find it, and he's having trouble getting in that way.

laszlo01 08-18-2009 10:09 AM

Brian, mine just died as well, where is it located in the dash ?

Mine is located in the tall closet/TV-compartment just forward of the head. It's all the way in the back of the compartment.

The later model boats have them up in the gunwale forward of the shifter/throttle controls.

They are wired into the dash very intricately. You can cut all of the zip ties and pull the whole puck and cable out for repair.

OR

You can cut the cable to the puck leaving at least 2 feet of pigtail hanging off the puck. Once you have the battery replaced, you can splice the three leads back together. They are about the same as telephone wire.

laszlo01 08-18-2009 12:34 PM

Ok great, Thank you.

ACTIVESHACK 08-18-2009 09:46 PM

I just replaced my antenna. Livorsi said it wasn't the battery but a short in the wireing so $250.00 later it works perfect. Alot of tie straps to cut and replace.

laszlo01 08-19-2009 07:11 AM

We ended up finding it behind the panel in the storage compartment behind the TV, why on earth would it be back there ? would it not be easier to mount it under the dash ?

Sydwayz 08-19-2009 07:43 AM

Pat started mounting them behind the dash in the past few years. However, they are sensitive to radio equipment, other antennas, GPS, compass, etc. That's why they are placed up in the gunwale where you found yours.

This was also before anyone knew the puck had a battery that would need eventual replacing. The newer models do not have puck batteries per Livorsi.

Mine was behind the dash up high close to the deck mounted on a L-bracket. Real easy to get too and change. The bracket was even powdercoated blue to match all the outside stuff :grinser010:

yzbert 08-20-2009 08:27 AM

i have yet to have the time to find mine, but i do know it is not behind the toilet now.

i am getting tired of my son asking if we can go faster than 30 though.

laszlo01 08-20-2009 01:57 PM

Remove the panel inside the cabinet under the Tv and it is back in there, kind of a pain but its in there.
