37AVH Insurance

Its almost that time, where are you guys/gals getting insurance for your boats, thanks :D And what should I pay for insuring my 37 per year:)

ROUGHSTUFF 04-13-2002 10:43 PM

Jassman, I have been quoted anywhere from $1600-$1900. The guy that quoted me $1600 will give and additional 10% off if they carry your house insurance and then another 3% off for every year you are claim free with them up to 5 years. The two did offer the same coverage. I also carry a $1mil liability umbrella policy to help keep my backside covered. The thing is you have alot bigger power which will change the equation. I'm just going with the little 496 HO's. But I'm HAPPY with it.

JJ We have the boat insured with State Farm for approximately $1400 / year. I have been with SF for 20+ years and have all of my insurance with them. They typically do not do performance boats.

h2owarrior,

You are lucky. I was with State Farm for ten years. My original Agent retired and I was reassigned. They changed all of my commercial rates, Way up. I had to switch to Farmers. State Farm thought they were doing me a favor to insure my Fountain at 2,400.00 a year. Farmers is charging 1,400.00. The next best quote I got was from Sy.

JJ,

I will have to dig up my quote that I got. It was definetly more than 2k, but I will check it out on Monday and let you know. There are other factors in the equation as well, I think your home port effects the rate as well. I think the quote I got from Total Dollar was around the 3k mark??:(

Jassman 04-14-2002 09:41 AM

Sy quoted me 3600. 4 mos ago and PMA was over 5k. I have a flawless driving record, no tickets for 23 years, no nothing, I guess I will start checking locally, Thanks everyone, anymore help on Ins. Comp. would greatly be apprieciated:D

thunderdan 04-14-2002 02:59 PM

There are some major differences in insurance policies and coverages. My advice is to make sure you are compairing apples and aplles. My origional quote was for 500 hp engines. I e-mailed sy to ask him the additional cost because of the KE 675b and his reply was 0 increase.:D

Jassman 04-14-2002 03:18 PM

Where are you getting your ins. from and how much. Lets get a 2 for one sale.:D on insurance

thunderdan 04-14-2002 03:46 PM

I am fairly certian I am getting it from Total Dollar, Sy Goldberg. I know that my rates were a bit lower because of the territory. I will talk to him tomorrow to see what the dilly is.:)

Jassman 04-14-2002 04:07 PM

Thanks, I apprieciate that:D

h2owarrior 04-14-2002 10:23 PM

No difference going from 1000hp to 1350hp ? Are you sure ? Horsepower is usually a major factor in insurance. Maybe after you reach a certain level the rate chart flettens out.

thunderdan 04-14-2002 11:15 PM

I will double check, I saved the e-mail at my office computer, but I am pretty confident no.

thunderdan 04-15-2002 11:18 AM

I talked to Sy this AM and will have some numbers for me tomorrow AM. I will keep you posted:)

Jassman 04-15-2002 02:18 PM

Thanks, I will call you later on cell phone, :D

Thunder Roy 04-15-2002 10:02 PM

My Ins is 3600.00 a year. Never had a claim. What's up with that?
37 avh 500 efi's

thunderdan 04-15-2002 10:05 PM

Thunder roy,

I am in the same boat, literall., That is, from what I remember, what I was quoted as well. That is for a 0 layup time. I would save only 300 bucks for a 4 month layup, not worth it.

Thunder Roy 04-15-2002 10:50 PM

Thunder Dan, I have no lay up on my ins. I boat most of the year here in south Texas. I tell the ins. co the truth about the speed and motors. They tell me that makes a difference. In case of a claim I do not want them to deny coverage. But damn 3600.00 is high. also a 3000.00 deductable. Some people find ins cheaper and later they get bumped up.

Jassman 04-15-2002 11:04 PM

Thats close to what Sy quoted me about 4 mos ago, I just have a problem paying that much, I never had a claim nor speeding tickets, or anything since Ive been 17, thats 22 years being clean, I guess I pay so much ins with my business, (70k per year, and never have had a claim, ) it just botheres me. While we are on the subject, another thing that bothers me is taxes, anyone know how I can get out of paying that too, heheheh:D

GO4BROKE 04-16-2002 08:24 PM

Maybe if you declare the boat a sovreign country, you could pay taxes to yourself!:p

Jassman 04-16-2002 09:16 PM

Thats what I'll do, let me talk to my accoutant.:D
