32 AT Question

I’ve always liked the AT 32 Offshore and would own one in a second. It has the styling I like and AT’s reputation as a builder is second to none. However, today I saw one that had something I was wondering was common to all 32’s or just this one. At worst, it could be a problem. At best, it’s a nuisance.

The 32 I saw today was sitting in the water and this is the first time I’ve seen a 32 in the water up close. It seems to sit in a manner that causes rainwater to pool-up in the recessed area that runs down the center of the deck. In fact, it was so substantial that the rear deck hatch (the one closest to the cockpit) was completely submerged by 3” of water. If the deck hatch is less than watertight, the cabin is going to be quite wet. I’m sure AT would say that the hatch is completely water tight and I have no reason to doubt that but boat ownership is full of issues that bite you in the ass when you least expect it. Why add the potential for another? At a minimum, the owner has to ensure that this area is bailed prior to opening the hatch. Do other 32’s do the same thing? If I were having AT build me a 32, I guess I would just have them install the deck hatches on the raised area of the deck. Doing so would eliminate any doubt

Just my .02

I have a 28 and never had that problem. If you raised the center of the deck, it may look like the deck of a Sonic:eek:
When your behind the wheel, the deck on the AT looks killer and I would not change a thing!

MassiveThunder 04-23-2002 09:19 AM

Its called the design of the deck.It is not a design flaw.I have had a couple of Active Thunders and it was never an issue. You shouldnt be leaving you boat sit in the rain all of the time anyhow.

ThunderousDaze 04-23-2002 09:34 AM

We have not had any complaints about this. And who said the the center is recessed? Aren't the outsides raised? There is no way that anyone is going to walk down the center of the boat, so we opted to raise the outside to give more headroom while sitting on the settee...Also, like Chris and Massive stated, it gives us our own look...Exactly Like Nothing Else!

KAAMA 04-23-2002 01:06 PM

Mine does the same thing...I've noticed this while washing the boat. It's a little annoying but it won't stop me from owning another Thunder.

Why is the center of the deck recessed and not raised? It would seem to me you would increase the cabin headroom down the center of the boat if you were to raise this area instead (same for the 37 AVH). It would also do away with this problem of water pooling up. I would think if you did this, you'd not loose any structural strength in the process.

The reason the center of the deck is recessed is because if it was raised "it would be a Sonic" and Sonic would be all over AT.

AC, must be this weeks spokes person for Active Thunder - NOTTTTT !!!! What a wealth of information. Quit talkin smak, jack ass. :p sincerely your friend, Jeff Jassby:rolleyes:

29 OUTLAW 04-25-2002 04:42 PM

Thanks for all the replies. I agree that the deck line as-is gives it a really menacing look. I wouldn’t change it. Like I said, if AT built me a 32, I would just have them put the hatch(s) in a spot that was not subject to the pooling.

ThunderousDaze 04-25-2002 05:29 PM

OK, hatches on the outside...What power do you want?

wavemaker 04-25-2002 06:12 PM

I have noticed he makes a bunch of remarks also. What's up with that? Go hang out somewhere else and moan.

The facts buddy!

AC, - Thats right, facts are facts, but when you don't tell the whole truth, and you got caught at it, looks like you have egg on your face:rolleyes: Your such a negative person, always complaining and trying to get back at A.T., and obviously I ruffed up your feathers too much, too bad, cause I called you on it, and to this day you never anwsered my questions, to defend your position. You made your decision, now live with it. Yes, I own an A.T. and proud of it, as well as 25% of a 2000 Cigarette Top Gun and 50% of a 2000 Sonic 42SS. Call me what you want, but last time I checked you owned 2 A.T.s, so jack ass x 2, later.

I was smart and got rid of the AT and bought a Cigarette! As I said before I had no problem with the first 25 AT I had - only the second one - 28 AT.

I don't know what your boy Pat told you but it's bull. So far as the questions - I don't have to answer Sh$%$$% to you.
I am done wasting my time with you! You are a big mouth!

Jassman 04-26-2002 04:54 PM

AC, everytime you come on the A.T. board you self incrinate yourself, you lose credability, you do alot of quoting and babling, but there is a real reason why you sold your boat and complained that you had to take a loss. Even if there were items on the boat (so you say) that had to be fixed, they would have been taken care of. So why buy a boat, being your second Thunder now, say it was a piece of chit, sell it for a loss, complain about it, DOESN'T MAKE SENSE !!!!
There is more to it. But we will never know the truth.

BTW, Not that you would believe me, but, Pat didn't say anything, and he is also not my boy, and if you had some kind of a personality you would know truely what the man is about, and how he cares about his customers as well as the boating industry
in general.

Your problem is you dish it out but cant take it, you say you own a Cigarette,(thank god thats the only thing we have in common) or is that false too, but never state what year or model, remember, I also am a part owner of a Cigarette and am very aware of their awesome quality, but it is no better than the new A.T. See ya at the delaware river run, sincerely Big Mouth:p :D

AC 04-26-2002 05:30 PM

Ok Jassman,

Now that we have the back and forth done with, if you really want to know the whole story I would gladly tell you, but I'll tell you offline. I'll give you all the details and then you'll understand so we can put this to rest.

You can email me at [email protected]

AC

:D I can also take it!

Jassman 04-26-2002 06:06 PM

AC, I sent you an e-mail.

ActiveThunder 04-26-2002 08:22 PM

inappropriate remark on my part.

R Addiction 04-27-2002 12:14 AM

I Love my Active!!!! If and when I can afford bigger get ready!! The look over the bow is "EXACTLY LIKE NOTHING ELSE". Besides other boats only get one veiw.........from behind!!!!!!!!

SH&*TY picture but you get the gist........

Jassman 04-27-2002 08:14 AM

R Addiction, I agree with you, I think they are an awesome look, not like anyone else's boat. They have a very aggressive look in the water. To me its like the older style looking boats, PowerPlay, Pantera, good looking boats that I love, but the A.T. has the same aggressive look, but, with an attutude, along with a level of refinement across the top deck to the stern. When Dan's boat is finished, around 3 weeks from now, everyone will see the new level of refinement, Pat and Steve have done extensive reserch, and people will not believe their eyes, the trick and awesome stuff they have come up with no other boat company has this all, the bar has been raised again. I always said to myself, I wish some day I could be in the right spot at the right time, I just realized it, that time is right now.:)

thunderdan 04-27-2002 08:36 AM

JJ,

Man you make me laugh. 3 weeks, no way. Well, you are right, 3 weeks and I will be boating in Jersey. :D :D :D

AC,

Enough is enough. Why don't you just let it rest. It was over a year ago. Come on let all move on to bigger and better things. :D

Steve 1 04-27-2002 02:16 PM

Thunder Dan; Last week at Pats request I saw your cabin for the first time assembled and almost finished 100% IMHO only some small carpet and the Babes were missing, My jaw dropped ,It is the nicest cabin I have ever seen!! Tim ,Steve M, Man good job!!

And this is coming from a guy who has spent a lot of time crawling around boats at the Genoa boat show.

Best Regards
:)

Jassman 04-28-2002 09:00 AM

steve1,

thanks, check out the thread on the 37avh interior shots...

jb 04-28-2002 10:37 PM

Back to the water situation.
I am familiar with a few 32's up north here. They all gather water by the hatch. I have been caught up in a rain storm with one and we all came out the hatches...except one.. the Thunder. The owner said it was a pain washing and getting rid of the pool of water by the hatch. Also, overnighting with a 32, and having a rain shower at night, could give you a surprise when opening the hatch.
Not so much a deal breaker for me...but the day the hatch starts to leak it would be a MAJOR design flaw.
I would hate to spend soo much and have to worry about something simple like water gathering by the hatch. The boats are toooooo nice for that.
something to think about

BuzzinBye! 04-29-2002 03:39 PM

There is another boat that has this same issue of water collecting in the center section of the deck (which is lower than the outsides). It does not flood the hatch because the hatches are on the outside of the deck, but the manufacturer has 2 drain holes molded into the deck to relieve the water.

Dan

Sydwayz 05-05-2002 02:10 AM

I was just going to suggest that. How about a very small thru hull fitting with a very small hose on it above the headliner over to the side of the boat, or straight down one of the supports, and draining into the bilge; or out the side with another thru hull. Imagine it like the drains for recessed and pop-up cleats. Can not be that hard to install.
