Update on Packin' Heat

Since there are already so many threads from my start to end of buying ICEDPPL's Tantrum, I figured since its still too cold to actually get out on the water still, I'd update on what I have been doing. So far, I have:

1. Replaced stereo
2. New amp on order
3. New hatch lense with dogs and riser on order from Bomar
4. Removed the windscreen (personal preference)
5. Scheduled glass guy to fill in the bow where what looks like the first owner (prior to ICEDPPL) installed some type of light.

Soon to be/maybe's lol:

1. Found a MOMO steering wheel that matches the red powdercoated rails so Im going to change that out.
2. New throttle and shifter ( i like to personalize haha)

Now here's the question. Where the windscreen was fabricated and mounted is a silver cut piece of stainless steel. From what I've seen on other Tantrum pics, that area above the cluster and above the cabin door used to be a vinyl cover that matched the interior. I would like to know if anyone knows an interior guy or what may be the best way to put that dash area back or close to stock looking. I want to get the through bolts and metallic piece off the boat and put it back the way it was stock. Hopefully that makes sense..

Cool. Thats the best part about buying something used, but new to you.

Do you have a picture of the windscreen area?

HavinATantrum 03-11-2011 08:20 AM

I sent 3 pictures of my dash pad which should help. In Ohio we are just 4 weeks away from the marina's opening and I have 4 inches of snow on the ground now and more expected. Mother Nature needs to start getting it together and warm us up.

Ironmanwb 03-11-2011 08:21 AM

I am living through you right now. I still have not picked mine up yet. I was going to pick it up this weekend but I don't want to drag it through the snow. I can't wait to start doing the same things you are. Not looking to do anything major to it but I do want to make it mine.

sonicss42 03-11-2011 09:17 AM

Btw, there is no 12 step program for what we all have.

I will have to post some on here when I get home this evening. Bostickt did send me some pics of how the Tanrtrum is set up from the factory.

Ironman, thats how I am. Doing some cosmetic and stereo upgrades for the most part. A little bit of personal touch lol..

Ironmanwb 03-11-2011 12:23 PM

I am heading to the lake (erie) tonight to my cottage just so I can go through the stuff I have stored for the boat.

Heres a pic of what I'm trying to get rid of and put back to original.. The metal just seems out of place.

cosmic12 03-11-2011 05:39 PM

That was my first thought too.

mptrimshop 03-11-2011 06:04 PM

ya get some foam under that vinyl to ...it will look real nice

modvp 03-11-2011 07:14 PM

I think the suggested vinyl and foam is what you are looking for. It looks sleek without the windshield.

I've been useing that word "sleek" to describe my Tantrum, or any AT, since I first saw it in person

I agree with padding and vinyl, but don't foget to have THUNDER embroidered in the middle, Or maybe the boats name. that should be pretty cheap at any embroider place. my .02.

My Addiction 03-11-2011 08:32 PM

What brand is that glove box in the Tantrum? I need one. can't seem to find one that fits. Right now I have a blank cover over a hole that used to have a VHF.

Im not sure what the glove box is. I looked today to see if anything was on it. Tomorrow, I'll have it out to run the wired remote cable so I'll see if I can see anything on the back

R Addiction 03-12-2011 10:47 PM

We bought a glove box bezel from Dana Marine and made a box for it.

R Addiction 03-13-2011 08:46 AM

I wish! I'd need a much better drive with 930HP on tap. Thats a 572 Gellner engine out of my brothers 41 Apache. I'm going to stick to my tried and true 502 Mag for now.

Yeah, you'd be doing more than just keeping up with that lol.

sleev-les 03-13-2011 06:43 PM

Got the head unit done a few weeks ago and today installed the wired remote. The amp is on order

Ironmanwb 03-13-2011 07:12 PM

Picked mine up today. Left at 5:30 am, made the round trip and still made it to work the home show this afternoon.

Stereo's are my specialty lol. I've been an installer for 12 years. It makes it even better when I can do something custom or out of the ordinary. I still work at the Annapolis Best Buy part time. Im hoping we get more boats this spring to work on. I only had 1 last year.

Hey Sleev, I used to do custom audio installations from the time I was 16 till about 21. Got tired of climbing in and out of camaro trunks and lying down in the slush to work under dashes during the winter. Nice boat!

If were not for the 9+hr drive with a gas half ton I would love to do some road trips. Part of the reason I bought this boat is because I can tow it with my current truck. It actually tows really well but I would burn about $600+ of fuel to get there and back not including fuel for the boat.

Come up to Lake Erie in late August for the Port Clinton Poker Run. Usually a pretty fun time.

Yeah, I spent about 400 round trip for gas in my 1500 picking up mine and bringing it back. I didnt have any problems towing it either. 1/2 did the job pretty well.

ICDEDPPL 03-14-2011 11:18 PM

Coming along nicely and looking better than ever!
You might regret taking that wind screen off at anything over 65mph:lolhit:

sleev-les 03-15-2011 04:47 AM

After seeing the wind hit you in that video, I figured "what the he//", lets see what happens lol
