Sorry I haven't read all the details, but since there are no BB's sitting back there, are you planning on extending the cockpit a couple of feet? I think that would be really nice, but I'd still leave a small storage area.

Yeah, Steve. But the idea is to have a 70+ mph boat that is comfortable to drive and has the 'SUV' appeal.
Reliability with a large, accommodating cockpit, bolsters for offshore and a bow to keep the turbulence down in the cockpit. How about a a cabin that you can air condition and relax in with separate galley, enclosed head and hot water shower. My idea really has been this since I did the JOJ and did the trip in a 36 Sonic CC. Just a miserable ride for the passengers. Windy, noisy, uncomfortable. No cabin to drain the Lites in. The ONLY thing we are losing here is that beautiful 'V8' engine sound. Powerboat this month is all about CCs. Sorry, just not the answer to a real go fast guy. The article should have been in the Saltwater Boat magazines. You have to admit a go-fast with OBs hanging off the back is still sexy at the dock. A CC? well..... http://www.saltwatersportsman.com/ga...h-Babe-Entries Yeah, sorta! Pat, I totally agree! From a $$$ standpoint, ease of maintanance and fuel efficiency, twin 300XS's is the right way to go. If you built a 28'-30' Active Thunder with the AVH hull (true hull length-no swim platform) the twin 300XS would be a perfect choice and still give you a boat that would run respectable speeds. Velocity built their "SUB" Sport Utility Boat based upon the original 30' Steve Stepp hull and twin 300XS's. The boat ran good speed numbers but the hybrid fishing/hi performance combo didn't catch on and was downright stupid looking. The AT 33 may be a good choice for twin 300XS. If you build one, make sure you build it with Hyd. Jackplates to fine tune setup. The ability to adjust motor height to prop design, hole shot, top end speed, setback, etc. is incredible in the outboard world!! Wish you guys the best!! |

i think the merc 300 will be a little faster but the yamaha's will be more reliable in the long run and i think that is why he chose the yamaha over the merc's , i would give up the 3 or 4 mph and go with the reliable yamaha's myself :) the worst part about performance boating is the repair's and everyone know's that the merc 300's have week lower unit's that's just one more thing you don't have to worry about with yamaha power mike |

All this 300X talk....
Who is ordering number 2 with the Mercs? And to the other question about the cockpit: Yes, we have some different plans for the cockpit. |
If #2 would be Mercs it would be Verados.

FYI it will be a tender with bow towing bracket to be pulled behind a yacht. The owner plans on setting travel records with the boat as well. His designer is hands on with the project who also designs his Indy race team's cars and colors. It will be one of the more interesting things I have been involved in. |
Being the Active Thunder Dealer involved with this project, we weighed over several engine/power choice options with the customer, including availability, pricing, reliabiliy, and maintenance. Given the use, travel, locale, and other logistical factors for this particular boat/owner, Yamaha won on the pros/con debate. That said, there are plenty of other options available for future boats.
This is going to be an amazing 33 AT, I have financing options available, who wants to be next?? :) |
