You beat me to it!

Q: What do a Ford Taurus SHO and the next 33 AT Evolution have in common?

A: They are both powered by Yamaha V6 Powerplants.

We started laying up the next 33AT last week. This boat will be a significant departure from recent boats. We are pretty stoked about it.
Stay tuned!

There are also a few new tricks slated for the next couple 37 AT Excesses as well. Things are in full swing in Pompano!

dkwestern 04-11-2011 07:40 PM

Looking forward to this build Brian. The 1st AT with boat engines in a while, not car engines, haha! I'm going to guess 78MPH. (80+ with 300xs opti)

Nice photoshop!!

mikebrls 04-11-2011 08:09 PM

that will be a nice reliable package with those yamaha's :)

letterrip 04-11-2011 09:12 PM

Finally.......!
Can't wait to see it done.

Cash Bar 04-11-2011 10:01 PM

Why, Oh, Why Yamahas?

I think it really need some 7 Ob's

hey hey, they're truck engines:coolcowboy:

but what about a those GM LSX marine engines!

Gladhe8er 04-12-2011 08:37 AM

Really looking forward to the looks and perfromance of this one. Of course I would have gone with Merc's. You don't see many(any) Yamaha's on high speed apllications. I wonder how the gearcases hold up...

Excess 04-12-2011 08:37 AM

I agree with Cash Bar.

Pat ??

letterrip 04-12-2011 08:49 AM

agree 7-evens !
then re-map the computer change a pulley for more horsepower..
Crazy fast !

or merc 300 XS...

i guess there trying something out of the BOX , " I think that's great " those yamaha motor's get into the few thousands hour's range on go-fast cc's.
wouldn't that be nice to have that amount of time before rebuild's which is on-herd of on performance boat's .
and im sure that boat will still top out into the 70 mph range :)

My thoughts exactly. And there is no speeds involved to worry about lower gear cases. You push a 15k lb center console thru the water at 60 with 4 engines.

Now there is a load on a gearcase!

509 SC 04-12-2011 09:52 PM

I think those Yammie's look great on that red and silver boat, what a color combo!

As far as quality and reliablilty is concern Mercury could only hope to come close. What alot of people don't know about Yamaha is there enginers have been behind the design and build of many engines for the Japanese automakers. Yamaha as a overall company has a unbelieveable amount of technology which is transfered into the products they build. Yamaha's stuff might not be the fastest or the lightest but its BUILT TO LAST!!!!!!

Thank you, its nice to see someone else gets it:drink:

Not exactly but point well taken. Boating every weekend is more important to me than have a super fast boat:evilb:

ActiveThunder 04-15-2011 06:47 PM

Our best calculations is 73 based on a loaded boat at 6500 lbs.

Back when I bought my 30 SS Sonic in 1989 it ran 73 with a pair of 454 Magnums and Bravo drives. It broke either the drive or the gimbal every other month. That was just a buttload of fun....

I am older and smarter. If it runs everytime we go out it is fun. That is the biggest reason we push the Merc 525s. NO ISSUES.

Yamaha outboards? very interested. Mercury outboards? very interested. Caddy engines turned sideways? Very interested. Anything that doesn't break.

We all turn the corner at some point.

desel 04-15-2011 08:41 PM

No issues with my new Sonic either. Great boat.

ICDEDPPL 04-15-2011 09:25 PM

Id rather have reliability over speed anyday of the week and twice on Sunday. With A.T you can have both.. wait why am I buying a Baja???:drink:

My Addiction 04-15-2011 09:56 PM

Im so out off the loop I didn't realize what a 7 ob was. But that thing looks bada$$. and pretty heavy.

Egg beaters on an Active Thunder!! I like the idea!! Here's a little egg beater video from last weekend...just some casual cruzzin north of 80mph from an ex-AT employee:

Yeah it is!

I was an outboard guy my whole life before getting bit by the go-fast bug. Had one of the very first Evinrude V6's on my waterway. :cool-smiley-011: The last one I owned was a Yammy 225. That was back in '91 - '92 time frame. What a wonderful piece of engineering. It ran so smooth you could set a cup of coffee on it in no wake zones and not spill a drop.

JUPITER PULSARE 04-17-2011 11:23 AM

Well..since you guys enjoyed that little eggbeater video clip I'll share a couple more:

Here's a clip of Nick (Nick's Creative Marine-Riviera Beach) smoking by me at over 110MPH:

Here's a clip of my AE-21 "flying" the bow:

Cash Bar 04-17-2011 11:29 AM

I was really KIDDING about putting on the 7s. WAAAYYY too much $$$ for that headache.

I do think a set of 300Xs would be good for weight-to-power concerns.

Tripple 300xs would really make the boat fly!!

Yeah, Steve. But the idea is to have a 70+ mph boat that is comfortable to drive and has the 'SUV' appeal.

Reliability with a large, accommodating cockpit, bolsters for offshore and a bow to keep the turbulence down in the cockpit.

How about a a cabin that you can air condition and relax in with separate galley, enclosed head and hot water shower.

My idea really has been this since I did the JOJ and did the trip in a 36 Sonic CC. Just a miserable ride for the passengers. Windy, noisy, uncomfortable. No cabin to drain the Lites in.

The ONLY thing we are losing here is that beautiful 'V8' engine sound.

Powerboat this month is all about CCs. Sorry, just not the answer to a real go fast guy. The article should have been in the Saltwater Boat magazines. You have to admit a go-fast with OBs hanging off the back is still sexy at the dock. A CC? well.....

http://www.saltwatersportsman.com/ga...h-Babe-Entries

Yeah, sorta!

bulletbob 04-20-2011 05:22 AM

Beautiful rig. I'm on my second performance boat a 25 Talon cat. My first was a 280 Velocity with twin outboards. Like you stated, "not the fastest but pretty much maintenance free". Being out there every weekend is more important than speed.
