I'll toss out a speculation:
3 major builders all abandoned their single step designs in relatively short timeframes. 2 of them were known to not perform well. The 3rd one was not like the others, but was also retired in favor of multiple steps. I'm speculating that the single step design is thought to be an ill handling setup, based on the aforementioned experiences with other builders. There has been tons and tons of discussion on the architecture, design, and refinement of the AT single step hull here in the past; and Pat summed it up very concisely. There are a ton of attitude pictures of different 37s here; in a bunch of water conditions and speeds in the AT Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...898037&sk=wall |
I've driven a 37 and a 33 AT, and with no seat time I have never had a problem running either boat. I have owned a 25 Tantrum since 1999 (new) and can attest to the handling of even the smallest offshore AT.
Pat, you missed a good Jammin' this year. Come fly the friendly skys with Active Thunder Airways http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/m...tsyouthere.jpg |
