AT handling

Looking at moving up to a 37 Active Thunder. Have heard there are some "handling issues" at higher speeds. What have you guys experienced?

Can you expand on the "handing issues" you are refering to, and at what speeds? Thanks.

Macklin 07-11-2011 11:30 AM

Nope. I just listed mine in the classifieds. If you are interested, let's go for a ride. :grinser010:

LMAO! Yeah, but it settles back down nicely after 180!!

rssteiny 07-11-2011 03:13 PM

My 32 active thunder runs over 90 mph and is so rock solid it is boring so just imagine a 37. Thunders are second to NONE and one ride will prove it.

Ah, the competition?? :party-smiley-004:

The ONLY hi-performance boat on the market with a patented hull design.

My Addiction 07-11-2011 07:22 PM

I saw it first hand for the frst time this weekend at Jammin. I could see how the big AT's (Monsoon and Over Active) ran across the top of the water differently than the other boats.
Does that make sense or was I seeing things?

Those two were just the only two I saw up close at speed.

Sydwayz 07-11-2011 09:02 PM

I'll toss out a speculation:

3 major builders all abandoned their single step designs in relatively short timeframes. 2 of them were known to not perform well. The 3rd one was not like the others, but was also retired in favor of multiple steps.

I'm speculating that the single step design is thought to be an ill handling setup, based on the aforementioned experiences with other builders.

There has been tons and tons of discussion on the architecture, design, and refinement of the AT single step hull here in the past; and Pat summed it up very concisely. There are a ton of attitude pictures of different 37s here; in a bunch of water conditions and speeds in the AT Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...898037&sk=wall

R Addiction 07-11-2011 09:38 PM

I've driven a 37 and a 33 AT, and with no seat time I have never had a problem running either boat. I have owned a 25 Tantrum since 1999 (new) and can attest to the handling of even the smallest offshore AT.

Pat, you missed a good Jammin' this year.

Actually there is so much wax on that boat the water won't accept it. Just take a look at the picture. :)

I'm not heard from much, usually just reading. Now I must talk. My Tantrum 25 handles amazing and anyone that has ever been on it for the first time will agree. My first poker run from Miami to Key West coming home solo in a hurricane warning... "Sydwayz can speak to that". Also ran to Key West in a 38 Top Gun next to two 37 Active Thunders...What a difference>>>Pics say a thousand words!!!

R Addiction 07-14-2011 11:17 AM

Thanks guys, It didn't look that good further up the river. Got surprised by a cruiser wake and went bow high. Ask outriggers how it looked! I regrouped and took the other set with a little better control.

outriggers 07-14-2011 12:56 PM

LOL, You gave me alot of warning. That's a great Pic, I was very impressed.

He damn sure did! He ran with the second pack on the FPC KW run and was within sight of us the whole trip. Well, that is until we broke a drive on the 37, and limped into Marathon. That 25 made it all the way to KW! And back!!
