Harry put a Pulse surface drive on one of the 22ATs with the DDC bottom. Pat has spent time in the boat. Then there is also the race boat with VI drives on it.

See if you can get Harry on the phone. I'm sure he'd have a lot to share. http://www.schoellmarine.com/

The DDC was originally designed by Harry Schoell with the surface drive in mind. The first DDC to go through serious paces was the "Infinity" 30, bird of prey, now being produced by Challenger Offshore. The first 30 was rigged with a single mercury Blackhawk drive. Later models were built with the pulse drives. I spend a lot of time in a 30 with the Pulse and loved it. Great running boat. Since the AT 37 utilized many of the same dynamics of the 30 DDC, my guess would be that the ASD should preform very well. More food for thought... Most of the 30's were built with single engine apps. A single 504, 415 hp motor ran the boat at 70 plus and planed at under 13 mph. I would love to see someone do a 37 AT with a single NA 540 cid/ 700 hp and a surface drive. Especially an ASD with its low coefficient of drag principles.

I would guess a surface drive on most performance hulls would result in better mid range and top end performance. Coming out of the hole would be another issue. You need to stay on the throttles longer and at higher RPMs. I just had these installed on my Formula and they do react much different then my XR's through all ranges of operation.

He should not have a problem with it. Harry tried talking me into his Pulse Drive when I built Radio Active. Ive been on one other perf. boat with the Pulse drive and it was taken off for a few reasons. The Pulse is designed for other boats I feel vs perf. boats. The ASD-7's are designed for the bravo application retrofit and or new. I know of boats that have over 950 hp and love them...it just will take some patience on set up, and corret wheel size...If I could not swing a #6 or Indy drive.. this is the only way to go. Talk with some of the Hustler guys..or better yet call Joe at Hustler or Eddie Young Performance motors..He has seat time and knows exactly how much power they will take before blowing up..Good Luck.. Jeff
