As far a my 80`s 'As good as it gets' Cig?? When you start building boats with real drives, call me.

I would definately love to see an AT with 1350's and 6's..... anything like that in the works Pat?

IMO as long as your boating and having fun who cares what type or brand of boat you own. Lets quit with the bull **** and talk about something else.

I would say that the top 3 boat owners that dont take criticism are Outerlimits, Cigarette, and Active Thunder....All very protective groups of people! Hahaha

I do a few a year. Has to be the right job. No rust buckets. Here's a '36 Chevy found in moth balls we are just finishing.

Cool!. I got back into it also, doing a 52 Chevy coupe that I chopped and lowered(in the weeds). and have done a few others. Good to see ya keeping busy.

I think the real drives comment is interesting and I also think that AT's obvious prejudice against building staggered boats has hurt their high end market. As wrong as the opinion might, it is basically gospel in the high performance community that a staggered setup is a better setup and there is no way to tell most of the people anything different. So, I think if AT wanted to catch some of the high end market they would have to build some 39ft or bigger boats with at least staggered Merc 850's and 6's

Since we are a custom built boat the customers delegate the power. Most chose 525s as a matter of record. Now the 565s are going to take over. I really like what I build and so do my customers. It's a well built boat with all of the amenities. If somebody wants bigger power all they have to do is ask!

BTW built staggered boats as well and saw no benefit with a patented and race proven hull that doesn't leave people swimming or worse. Plus you lose cockpit space. Hence the 39' idea I guess.

As far as drives there are a few ATs from the late 80s or early 90s with those SSM IVs on them like "Running Hot". We've used NXTs or #6s which are a little more current. Bravo XRs are great too. Ya just gotta have some skill.

state1310 05-15-2013 07:41 PM

I could have sworn AT was a fairly high end boat , it sure isn't low end . looking on powerboatlistings there is a 38 cig top gun with twin 525's and xr drives . for top speed it says 75 . If I'm not mistaking a 37 AT with the same power will run over 90 . So if that is all true Pat and the guys at AT must be doing something right .

Looks great Pat! I hate resto projects. Last nut and bolt was a Ferrari a few years ago. Took nine months and I am still having flashbacks lol.

AT is one of the top three vee bottom builders with Cig and Outerlimits, but AT has limited itself to really 37's with 525's. I am just saying that if Pat wanted to make the jump to OL and Cig territory he would have to build bigger power staggered boats that run 120+. Upwards of $5-6-700k.....

I can't wait until Pat turns Active Thunder Boats over to a "Forum Member Owned Company" !!! :drink:

Sell shares like Reggie did, that turned out well :party-smiley-004:

Are any other boat company owners active on the forums?

you also have to remember that the 37 has a wide flat pad from the single step to the transom where as a cigarette is a V all the way from bow to stern . the pad give's a flat surface for the boat to run on vs running on a straight V.
look at velocity boats how fast they run with small power but there flat pad is twice as wide maybe more then A.T

mike

37 with 525`s runs 90mph + I can`t wait to witness that for myself.

A 38 TS Top Gun with 525's will run very similar speeds to a 37 AT. The TG is a foot longer and next to no amenities in the cabin.
The dialed in 37 AT's run around 86-88mph. I think a couple have touched 90. The 38 TS Guns run 84-86mph.

It's been discussed before.

Stealin' Thunder ran 90 and change with Herrings. A few others have seen similar. I want to say Frank had the silver/yellow/burgundy one up to 91 at one point.

It's not an everyday speed on every boat, but it can be tuned to do so. Mike's boat should run a consistent 85+ depending on conditions. Pushing 90 with a fully decked out cabin including AC with 525EFI/XRs is nothing to sneeze at.

What's with all the skepticism and drama in this joint lately? Aren't we all in this because we enjoy it?

Mine would run 89 with P5x Hydros and stock 525's in Lake Erie water. Fully loaded with fuel and 6 people you would see 85-87 all day long. Only Problem was my buddy would run 91 in his boat so we had to up the power a bit... He don't pass me any more :lolhit:

Dan these are for you, will have to get the wife to hold them for me.

rssteiny 05-16-2013 07:40 AM

Remember there is always someone faster, The more money you have to blow the faster you go, be happy with what you have and quit all the BS on here get on the water.

ICDEDPPL 05-16-2013 07:43 AM

HA! Aren`t they just the most beautiful thing ever!?!? I probably won`t be saying that is I ever get too close at the beach, they`ve already cost me a pair of pants, shirt and a couple a nice scrapes.

cosmic12 05-16-2013 07:49 AM

Just a thought here, when was the last time Cig built a TG with a full cabin? V-berth/ head/frig/ 2sinks w fresh water/ AC /genny/ or any kind of storage? I have heard and it is just rumor, they won't do it because it upsets the balance and speedway to much. Go figure.........
Point is not everybody has to have all out speed but wants to enjoy performace boating on many more levels.
So, when was the last time one of Pats customers ordered a 37 stripped down like a TG? Go order one he would probly build it though it would defeat the whole objective of a AT.
I'm thinking those #s(37s built) and what the customers want are what tells the story and it is delieved to them in style and comfert with very respectable speeds by the same guy every time that has been doing it for how long?
Where is the arguement? I just don't get it.

AttitudeJr 05-16-2013 07:59 AM

Our's ran 88.9 with 500 efi's when new, with 5 ppl full tanks and everyone stuff for the weekend. On Lake Michigan. It has a full cabin microwave,tv,a/c,fridge, with 1300 hrs+ runs low 80's. but that's with the old 5inch step

Somethin' Sexy 05-16-2013 10:11 AM

2001 32' w/500's and XR's

my 32' ran 82.7 with 6 people and 3/4 full. 1.5 on the drives. I can only imagine what it would do with 525's (someday, maybe). the only problem that I have is my prop slip seems high to me 18-20% (running labbed 30's or 32's). If I can figure out how to get it down should pick up a mile or two.

Last year took the 1/2 drive spacers out (not sure why they were there), didn't lose any speed, boat flattened out, but damn the rooster tail it threw. Had one of my friends call me after I took off, he thought I forgot to trim the drives down. No problem getting out of the hole.

ICDEDPPL 05-17-2013 12:59 AM

LOL dude its been like 6 years, please send me your address and I will tell my wife to look thru her closet and send you the sweatshirt!! I`m sorry!
