Its a custom steel fatbike (made for riding in snow and sand) with 4" wide tires. And yes, I did have it painted to match the boat. :)

Who makes that ride ? I might be interested in one. Can't believe I haven't seen one in Aspen and I can probably start a new fad with it out there.:coolcowboy:

Not a new fad...they've been getting increasingly popular over the past 5 years or so. I bought my first one 3 years ago, sold it in the spring, and built this one this summer. Mine is a Quiring...full custom build (as in gave him my measurements and spec'd the bike out to fit me perfectly)...he's a custom builder out of Freesoil, MI. Mine is only the 4th or 5th fatty he's built...he's been building bike for 15 years, I've wanted one for a long time.

Surly was the initiator of the trend, with the Pugsley. Now they make that and the Moonlander, which has 5" tires. Salsa was the next company to jump in, and that's what I used to have, a Salsa Mukluk. Now, the big manufacturers have jumped on the bandwagon, Trek, Kona, and Specialized all came out with fatties this year. Trek's sold out almost instantly.

We got 7" of snow yesterday...I'm headed out to do a fatbike ride in an hour...

I ran into a guy on the snowmobile trail last year riding one of these. He said he worked at the nearby Trek plant in Waterloo, Wi. It looks like it would be a lot of work , even on a groomed snowmobile trail. I think I'll stick with the Ski Doo!

Can we go back to "crickets"?

It has to be better than trying to ride a bike around in the snow, right? :ernaehrung004:

Having just got home from a weekend on the water in Cape Coral and now back to snow and cold I couldn't agree with you more.

Hey, that's great for you!

But "perfect" is different for different people. 5+ hours of biking in the snow and a day of snowboarding did me just fine.

I'd get sick of the same weather all the time.

ActiveThunder 12-16-2013 04:59 PM

Me too!

Low tonight.......(drum roll, please).........................60.

Hey...Michelle says thanks for FINALLY accepting her "Friend Request" on Facedork. She feels more special now. :)

Also...your response to Dan would be more poignant if you referenced points NORTH, rather than south. Antarctica just makes it confusing. Because its summer down there right now, but its still cold, but you are making fun of us for being cold, but its not as cold here as it is there, and I'm rambling on...

I excepted over 500 of them yesterday. But she still is special. I didn't know I had to do that on a regular basis.

Loaded the spare sled in the truck yesterday...rolling NORTH next Thursday! Can't wait to be even COLDER!!!!!

314joey 12-17-2013 07:19 AM

When someone worked hard to get a new boat or gets a chance to do what they've wanted to do for years I'm happy for them, not some debbie downer, I lived up North in the cold nasty Midwest winters for 55 years and had enough of it, sorry if I offended anyone for being happy to be able to live my dream, I hope maybe one day everyone will be able to do the same.

Here's what I do, when I see something I don't like or agree about, I just don't read it or I ignore it, try it, it's simple,

Name calling, we have gotten back to that again, it seemed that stopped on here for a while, guess bad stuff just pops up from time to time.

I don't slam people for wanting to do their winter sports stuff, cool, happy for them, why be so angry, be positive and good things will come to you, have great day.

sommerfliesby 12-17-2013 08:01 AM

My boat was beeping at me this morning. Couldn't figure out WHERE that infernal beep was coming from....pulled the cover and went on board...turned out it was the CO detector. I seem to have forgotten to charge the batteries in the past couple months...ooops. Fortunately, I bought one of those pigtail 110v-to-shore-power thingies...plugged her in, flipped battery charger on, reset detector...let's go boating! Oh...no...wait...................I live in Antarctica....

Wildman_grafix 12-17-2013 08:29 AM

Don't feel bad, I have lived down in FL for over 2 years and have not boated once yet. Heck I have only been on the bike a couple of times.

ICDEDPPL 12-17-2013 09:03 AM

Follow 314`s post on here, Powerboat Nation and Boatfreaks.. all he does all days is look for threads with folks not happy about winter and then shoves his Florida pics in their face over and over and over
The pm`s I`ve received tell me I`m not the only one whose annoyed.
I like winter, I like my winter sports, I like snow, my kids love snow, I like having time to do winter projects, and taking a break from boating, not everyone is too old to hack the cold.
Pat get used to me checking new threads.. or "trolling" as you call it.

314joey 12-17-2013 09:18 AM

I don't ever remember ever being so unhappy in my life, I'm thrilled that some people love the snow and cold, you've got three more months of it, folks get cranky in the winter.

Funny, people have PMed me about how negative some people are and not to worry about it, I don't.

ICDEDPPL 12-17-2013 09:41 AM

Go ahead and play up the "poor old me" card buddy.. I just hit the "can`t take it anymore" point with that post.. I should have just put you on the ignore list.. Done. Post away Joey!! Please tell us what you`ll be doing today?? Boating?!?! OMG you`re so cool!!!!

boatnt 12-17-2013 09:56 AM

oh $hit......
just when I was getting ready to ask you guys if think my Fountain is better then a Formula or a Cig,,, carry on...

If you turn the audio WAY up, you can hear a tiny voice yelling "Patrick, SLOW DOWN!"

ActiveThunder 12-18-2013 06:46 PM

Tiny?

If you listen closely you can hear them again. Come on people I'm stuck in a tractor for a few more weeks but some of you have surely been on the water. I know at least one cult member was running around in the swamp last weekend.

trex232 05-06-2015 02:59 PM

Haven't got the motor back in mine yet so I am stuck on the dock

ActiveThunder 05-06-2015 06:25 PM

Pay attention this week. I think the crickets will quiet down for a while.

No crickets here! Had an AWESOME time down at Tickfaw...and there was more than one of us in the swamp, as Flenner was there too!

In fact, I decided to utilize my roving-reporter skillset, and wrote about the whole adventure. Here it is, if you are interested: http://sommerfliesby.blogspot.com/20...x-account.html

flenner 05-08-2015 10:33 PM

Sommerfliesby, is was good to see you again, if only for a brief moment (I could tell you had a bad hangover). We too had to get my boat unstuck from the bottom on Friday. Other than that, had a great time! This was my fourth time at the Tickfaw 200. More of the Cult needs to come. This is a great event and as you said in your write up, everybody is so nice and helpful. Hope to see you at LOTO for the shootout if you make it.
