Whats the latest trend on the gas tanks? Do they stay as is in picture or do they get foamed in?

no idea ICE'D, but I gotta stop drinking, starting to see double on your avatar

ALL_IN! 03-03-2016 10:38 AM

I don't see any pics - is that because I'm not in the club???

TWIN-SPINS 03-03-2016 04:07 PM

I see double doubles,,,

ActiveThunder 03-03-2016 08:30 PM

Actually, a great question.

The tank manufacturer recommends we put 1/4" rubber mat under them and simply thru-bolt. This is based on the thought process of water under the tanks and corrosion. Plus replacement.

Anybody that has ever tried to remove a tank know if it is foamed in you almost can't get it out. It becomes "structure".

This picture was with rubber mat and thru-bolts. However I then foamed them in with 6 lb density foam. It is part of the structure.

Pat

BUP 03-03-2016 09:31 PM

Pat hard to tell in the pics but is your aluminum fuel tanks externally coated to help against corrosion issues down the road. Just asking

Something like these in the link

http://www.speedytanks.com/gallery.html

If not there is products today to even clear coat them or even bed liner coatings.

What are your stringers made of ?

ICDEDPPL 03-04-2016 04:36 PM

I went back and forth and ended up just doing the rubber strips on mine without the foam... I think it`ll be ok too.

BUP 03-04-2016 05:19 PM

^^^^^ according to your picture it looks like you have additional huge structural sound twin fun bags that your fuel tank can be mounted in between for the extra support needed to handle those rough days of offshoring. ^^^^^^^

rak rua 03-04-2016 08:26 PM

^^^^^ Seen it before, wait 'till those tiny stringers break during a hard pounding and reveal moisture in hard to reach areas. Looks good now but when she gets older, the keel pad will get wider and stress cracks will appear out of nowhere ^^^^^

^^^^ good to know THX Brian

Pwraddr 03-06-2016 04:19 PM

Does Coosa make them?

ActiveThunder 03-06-2016 08:08 PM

Built the first one like this in 2002. It is Outlaw, our F2 raceboat. Not a crack or moisture anywhere,

Know your builder and his process before you give your opinion.

I think he was referring to ICDEDPPL's avatar. :D

AZMIDLYF 03-06-2016 08:20 PM

I think this was his intent as well ^^^

Unreserved apology, the post was a sarcastic comment following on from the preceding post.
Another member made a fun comment in reference to ICDEDPPL and his latest avatar, my post was a follow on and no serious reference to your boats was intended. (double entendre)

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has ever criticized Active Thunder build quality and I believe they are built to a first class standard in all respects.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, please re-read my post and if you wish, I will delete it.

Jon.

BUP 03-06-2016 09:08 PM

I was the one who changed direction in the thread - about ICDEDPPL pic in his AV. It is very hard to miss the twin mount fugi's he has for a picture. Myself and rak rua was only commenting on his AVATAR pic.

VERY Sorry to mess up the post and the misunderstanding as I knew where rak was coming from but also see how it could be taken the wrong way.

It is clearly shown the AT pic is one strong built boat with a stringer grid like that. Hence the reason why I asked what material was it to even reinforce that end of it. Also Divinycell is not cheap to buy.

ActiveThunder 03-07-2016 06:42 AM

I musta had my DIckhead hat on when I read the post. Sorry about that. Pretty bad when the most sarcastic person in the world can't tell when something is sarcastic.

For your information, though, the material we use in the transom and stringers is Bluwater Coosa board. We use the 26# density in the transom. We use divinycell 1/2" coring in the hull sides and the deck.

AZMIDLYF 03-07-2016 09:02 AM

You obviously had a different hat on when laying out these boats. Very nice set up.
