How many 37’s built after the red one? Anyone have pics?!

Just curious how many 37’s were built after the red 37 with the 565’s? Does anyone have pictures of them? Always loved the AT’s but haven’t seen any pics of newer 37’s.....

Sydwayz 05-07-2019 03:26 PM

I’m not sure how many, but Pat’s biggest customer has been Mercury/Racing. He’s built several boats with transoms he’s dared them to break in their endurance and abuse testing. The hurricane hit the X-Site facility pretty bad; so not sure on update. Perhaps he’ll chime in. I think the red 37’ is heading back up to Canada; and he has a ‘little hot rod’ in mind.

302Sport 05-07-2019 04:33 PM

I saw on FB that AT was building the test bed boats for Mercury. Just curious if there had been any other customer ordered 37’s built and what they looked like.

302Sport 05-09-2019 11:14 AM

Man it is quiet here, I remember when the Cult was strong. Ask a question like that and people would be chiming in, posting pics, etc...

Drock78 05-09-2019 01:21 PM

The last classified for a new build was $700k+. 3 years ago they were in the $350k range IIRC. Can build a new Outerlimits 44sl with 860's and 6's for $750k. I LOVED my AT but at that price point, I'd never own a new one.

That wasn’t for a 37.

302Sport 05-09-2019 08:54 PM

Pat any pictures of the latest 37’a you have built??

Drock78 05-10-2019 06:55 AM

What was that pricing for? What's the ballpark for a new 37 with 565's?

302Sport 05-10-2019 08:18 AM

I am also interested what a new 37 would cost with paint, interior, stereo, electronics, AC, and the bilge all ready for power and drives.

I believe you are referring to an ad he had up for a new 42 with 860s.

Drock78 05-10-2019 11:18 PM

That would make more sense. I'd love to see a 42 with 860's

302Sport 05-11-2019 08:19 AM

I agree but it would HAVE to be staggered. I know Brian and Pat are going to come in here and say “the hull was designed for side by side applications, the staggered setup doesn’t gain anything, etc....” but the reality is that people want the staggered setup because of the room it gives you in the engine bay, the wow factor and the rooster tail. Honestly I probably would’ve never sold my 37 if it was a staggered boat. You think people put big rims and low profile tires on their cars because it improves the grip of the vehicle!??!? No, it’s because it looks good and that’s what sells most people is curb appeal.

I think there is great room in my 37' with the side by side plus it handles better at the dock.

Too me if it doesn’t have dry pipes and throw a roost then you might as well have egg eaters 🤷*♂️

Drock78 05-11-2019 01:55 PM

I'm probably way off base but I'd think that a 42 might have to be staggered to get the COG right. I LOVED my 37! Hoping to own another in the near future.

endeavour32 05-11-2019 03:27 PM

A 42 Fountain and a 37 AT are basically the same size boat. The 42 fountain being staggered has no speed advantage over the AT. It seems that most 42 Fountains have a real world speed of 83-85, the AT 84-86, with both running 32 bravo props and 525 EFI engines. I'd rather have more room in the cockpit, I spend very little time hanging out in my engine compartment.

Are you sure about that? I purchased a 1998 42' Fountain before I purchased my 37 (boat wasn't in the shape I thought and full refund was given back) I've tied up to plenty of 42' Fountains and they are not the same size boat, the Fountain has another 3'-4'. My 37' is the same length as a 1990 38' Fountain straight bottom. I might have the pic laying around.

endeavour32 05-11-2019 07:10 PM

Yup, 42 Fountain has 2' of swim platform and 2' of beak included in that 42'. I know it's an old subject, but an AT doesn't include the platform or a have a beak, if they did you would have a 41' boat. Both weight right around 10K.

TylerBurich 05-13-2019 10:20 AM

Anybody know anything about the 37 in the classifieds with 6's? Kids and I were watching the coverage from 2018 FPC bimini run that went to marathon and noticed Pat running the red 37, sexy boat.

One of the fastest boats ever vs a boat that needs bottom mods with over 600hp. Put down the pipe.

YEa....no. I boated with a 42 Fountain all the time...trust me...it's bigger than a 37 AT (which plumb-bobbed is 36'6").https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...2577111934.jpg

What bottom mods are needed on a 37 with over 600hp? First I've heard of this.

endeavour32 05-13-2019 06:38 PM

I'm going to line my boat up properly to my friends 12 meter. I'm willing to bet the hulls are within 18" or less of each other. Your boat is 26" behind that Fountain, your transom is lined up to its swim platform. A Fountain 42 has a 40' deck on a 38' hull. So I guess to be accurate the AT 37 falls in between the Fountain 42 and the 38.

Look at the Fountain 35. The boat started out as a 31' Excaliber. They added a beak to it, and you had the 10 meter (33'). Then they added a swim platform and you had a Fountain 35. The actual length of the hull was never changed. I'm not saying they are bad boats, but their hulls are nothing magical. The reason their boats appear faster than others of the same length, is because they are not the same length.

I had my old Formula 292 SR-1 tied next to a 35 Fountain. No way that hull was 6' longer, maybe 2', 4' including the beak, but that's it.

Exactly. Only thing I ever read was Pat having to bevel the step on one of the 675 boats. I think that was when the step was still 4 1/2" vs the current 4". I have a 4" step, so no bottom mods needed on my boat.

As far as I know, Lazlos boat doesn't have bottom mods, and he's WELL over 600 hp and 100 mph.

No sorry, when I get time I will look and post some pics of my 35 in the middle with a 292 on one side and a 290 PQ on the the other, the Fountain is that much bigger, sorry but it is what it is

LOL- a 35 Fountain was a 31' boat, nothing was changed other than adding a platform an a beak. Those are the facts! A 292 Fastec is only a 27' boat, so don't post a picture of a 292 Fastec.

Pretty old argument here but still plenty of fun reading and if you can all post side by side pics, it makes it even more enjoyable. :food-smiley-007:

Trust me. I've boated with BZ (the 42 in the picture for MANY years). I have other pictures.

Also...I'll add that I've driven both...and the 42 Fountain is an incredible boat...

So...on both counts...I've been there done that. And I don't necessarily agree. Sorry.

32fever 05-13-2019 09:29 PM

This is pretty funny. Someone has some beak envy.

So Mike posts a pic that a 42 is clearly longer from a nicely angled photo showing this, but then the comment is the AT is 26" behind the Fountain? LOL 26" is pretty exact for someone with poor depth, or length perception.

I love when people point out like the beak on a Fountain doesn't matter. It's unusable space in ANY boat without an anchor locker pretty much.

Even boats that are the same length differ in size. Once of these 37' boats is actually very noticeably larger than the others when you get on board. But, you know what, they're all pretty kick azz boats, with or without a beak. The way I see it, we're all lucky to have what we do, and just "run whacha brung".

I just got a nice chuckle out of twenty six inches. LOL! Good stuff!

So this pic is not great because the perspective certainly favors the Fountain, and the cleats are lined up the same as in the previous, but you can see there's still a LOT more bow on the Fountain.

Pat told me when I bought my boat that he measured the "bathtub line" on a 42 Beak and a 37 AT, and that the Fountain's was only 12" longer at the waterline.

As to the step mods on the AT...the 700 boats have a smaller step.

The AT and 42 Fountain are really different animals when it comes to driving. The AT wants to attack the waves...much like an old-school Apache in the videos. It takes some getting-used-to coming out of a Fountain, which carries the bow very level. The AT was particularly challenging in a following sea...the props aerate quite unexpectedly (and cause the captain to swear at himself, lol). They are both a BLAST in ACTUAL 3-4' waves...IMO...both hulls "wake up" at that point and you have to drive and throttle them (which is why we do what we do, no?). For that last reason, I always say my 35 Fountain was my favorite boat to drive...because even in 1-2'...you had to drive the boat.

This is always a fun pic to reference with regard to boat lengths. Take from it what you will. From the bottom...38 Excalibur, 27 Formula, 26 Velocity, 36 Baja, 35 Fountain, 405 Formula SR1, 47 Outerlimits, 34 Hustler, 34 Phantom, 38 Cougar.

Sydwayz 05-14-2019 10:30 AM

Several attributes are mentioned on this thread without any supporting info.

Hull length blah, blah, blah.
What one needs to measure is the "bathtub line", which is the length of the hull at the waterline. You will find that the 38' Cig, 37' AT, and 42' Fountain to all be within negligible difference of each other. Sure, the 42' Fountain is a bigger boat. I can put a 28' plywood deck over 21' long pontoons (tubes). Technically, that's a 28' boat. But it's not going to perform the same way as a 28' pontoon with 28' long tubes. The size advantage the 42' Fountain has is ABOVE the waterline; and that balance change is what Mike alluded to with how the boats perform differently. Something that will surprise you is if you raft any of those boats next to a 38' PowerPlay. Now THAT is a massive boat; but it's profile is bigger, as it has taller hullsides and deeper gunwales. Same goes with the old 37' Outerlimits. I've referred to the 38PP as a "38' Black Thunder" in the past when trying to explain the difference.

And I only know of two 37' ATs that have "hull mods".
One, is owned by John Hope, the "Whatever" boat. That boat was originally built with HP500s, with the 4" step. The previous owner had big power 800+ mills in it, and it at the speeds those mills produced, the transom was losing contact with the surface of the water as that boat was blueprinted for only HP500 speeds when originally built. The step was beveled off a bit so the transom stayed in the water. That bevel has since been filled back in as the boat now has HP500s back in it. Advantage for AT: the bottom of the boat is solid fiberglass; no coring; so it's easy to make those changes.

Two, was the first step 37' boat built. I can't remember the specs on the boat, but I think it had the 675s as mentioned. There was a flaw in the bottom of the boat. Something happened where the step insert in the mold wasn't positioned as designed; and the boat had a little bit of a lean to it at running speeds. That was corrected on that boat too.

In closing, I'll remind everyone that the original 37' AT mold is a Vee bottom, and the step has always been created by placing an insert in the mold. This has allowed Pat to adjust the step height over the years as "stock power" has increased. Originally the step was 5". Then it went down to 4". And I think the last several have been 3 & 3/8". The patented DDC stepped hull was engineered, tested, and designed by Harry Schoell to have 3 points on the same plane: the step, the transom, and the propshaft. As speeds have increased, drive hydrodynamics, dimensions, and setbacks have changed over the years; the insert method of AT's constructions has allowed Pat to adjust the hull as needed for each all of these variables. Most folks don't know this, but Pat consults Harry Schoell on every boat that he builds before the first coat of gelcoat release wax is sprayed. And last, you CANNOT throw a ton of HP at a boat, ANY BOAT, and expect it perform linearly.

Wildman_grafix 05-14-2019 11:15 AM

Length aside how does the bathtub line mean a thing, these boats all sit ass heavy in the water. depending on how I trim I can have a lot more boat in the water at plane then when sitting.

If we measured bathtub ring mine is a 24 foot boat,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I doubt in the Atlantic anyone with a 24 can keep up with me.

I think to stop all this we should go back to boats like this, its what I learned to ski behind and the first boat we ever restored. ( ok this one is a 1959 and the one we did was a 49, windshield was the main difference and ours had a flat head grey marine 6 cyl.) This is a true 19 foot boat, no molded on swim, no beak as a matter of fact the bow was nearly vertical.

LOL

Wildman_grafix 05-14-2019 11:21 AM

BTW,,, all kidding aside I like both the AT and the 42 fountain, the cabin I always loved the whore house look of sommerflysby boat. I Also like the OB powered 33 that is down in Ft Myers.

Seems like that would be a great boat for down here.

Kind of do wonder why not may seem to have been made lately or why Pat doesn't go ahead and build CC's,,,,,,,,,

I think the answer is 0

I could’ve sworn I saw a couple new builds posted on the AT FB page since then, but I’m probably wrong.

kjberman 05-27-2019 09:37 PM

When I picked up my 37’ in 2016 there was a new 37 there. Believe it had 540’s, ITS, and no swim platform.

Found a picture.....

Drock78 05-28-2019 04:23 AM

That's the all red 37 with 565's I believe
