Default What HP for 80 in mid 90's 32'

Anybody know what horsepower is necessary to get 80mph from a mid 90's 32' AT?

Also, what should real world speed be w/ stock 502 efi's?

I bought Pat"s '94 Thunder32 and it had 502/465's and 136 gears and it ran a constant 78. I changed to 151 gears and removed water pumps and went with Stainless Marine cross-overs we started running 82-84 depending on the temperature. I also had dry exhaust with the Gills. Changing the gears I went from 23pitch to 27pitch bravo1's.

You're not buying a Thunder are you? After all that Cig trash talk? LOL!

Real speed on a 32 with 502 efi's (mid-late 90's) is 72-73 GPS max. That's with extension boxes (not sure if they make a difference) and before they notched the transom. They started that in 1998 on the 32's. Thunders seem to be less weight sensitive than say, a fountain, so you won't peel off too much speed with full fuel, coolers, etc. A 32 with 502's can run 70 all day long loaded up.

Friend of mine has one, not sure if he'd come out of lurking to answer this, so I added what I know.

Cig trash talk???

Nothing purchased yet but I am looking for 80 or damn close. AT is on my wish list but necessary power may make price prohibitive for the model years I'm interested in. I may need to take a closer look at 28 foot boats.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Maybe I have you confused with someone else. Your avatar looks like a 31 Bullet.

Anyway, the 32 I am speaking of might be for sale, and it is in MI. If you're interested, email me and I'll ask him if he's still thinking of selling to upgrade.

A 32 Thunder is a great Lake MI boat, in my opinion.

BGIII,

I know of a very very nice 32 w/ 500 hp's that is one of the "Best" known AT's built. The certain someone that owns it would love to move it so he can get a new 37'

If interested go ahead and contact Jon as I will be running my deal thru them on the trade.

32Fever, I believe the 32'A/T you're speaking of that does 72-73mph with 502MPI's and extension boxes is running that way with 1:36 gears. Therefore, it would probably be a few mph faster if it had the 1:50 gears instead.

Excuses, excuses....LOL!

Good point, if it had 1:50 could probably spin a slightly larger prop and gain a mph or so. If someone wanted to change it.

And you're thinking of the same boat A sweet one, too. Well, for a non-beak boat, that is. LOL!
