Opinion On 25 Tantrum

I just found a 25 tantrum, Other than the 8.0 beam I like the look, does this have that sunken center section on the deck? and it has a 454/385 is this a little underpowered??? they are asking Around 41K with a trailer any thoughts??

thunderdan 01-23-2003 11:41 AM

I had a 25 tantrum before I sold it for my 37. Give me a shout with any questions-856-767-5159

mika 01-23-2003 06:51 PM

I have a buddy who has a 1998 25' with a 500hp that Chief Engines did a blower set up on. I think it's around 630HP and runs in the low 80's. He has been talking about selling it. I'm sure he would answer any questions for you also.

25 tantrum

i own a 25 with a hp 500 it is a awsome boat. well built
handles great, large cuddy for a 25' boat. mine is a 1998
and it was radared at 79.0 mph. with a 454 mag you should run around 67 mph. i paid 42,000 last year but mine was built for f1 racing it has duel throttles and guages on both sides also has large 30" k planes exterinal hydrualic steering, aluminum pipe
swim plat form. mine is in like new condition on a awsome trailer.
the boat you are looking at should be around
38,000. need any more info call me 570-398-7427 rick.

thunderdan 01-23-2003 09:01 PM

You are right about that boat being in great shape Rick, the guy that had it before you really took great care of it.;) :D

79mph is pretty damn good.....Did you ever have those springs checked? Maybe you can trailer that bad boy down to destin in March???

MARK,

What year is that boat you are looking at? I thought you told me it was a 99 but I forgot?

R Addiction 01-23-2003 10:14 PM

We have a 25 Tantrum. 502MAG/Bravo 1 = 70.4 on GPS. But then you know what they say, It's not how fast you go , it's how well you go fast. And these boats go fast very well. Unless you don't like to run fast and fly level!!!! If you have any questions Give me a call 610-695-8997. Leave a message.;)

surfacetension 01-24-2003 06:43 AM

Dan , It,s a 1997, I think I may have to see if the guy will move on the price?

thunderdan 01-24-2003 06:59 AM

Mark,

I would. I checked my records and I sold my 25 to Rick for 42k. He got a sweet deal though as I already put the deposit on my 37 and needed to move the boat. That boat had 150 hours or so, big 380 k planes, a nice extended tubular swim platform, external steering etc...

I would try and see if he will move on the price a bit. If not I know that Mike Gordon aka on OSO as "gordo",has the same boat as mine, with freshened 500hp, and is a bit faster for sale as well.

good luck

Dan

Gordo 01-24-2003 09:14 AM

Did someone say "Thunder"?

As you have already read, the 25 Active Thunder is a great boat that acts like a larger boat in big water, but still a screamer in the calm. I would highly recomend this boat to anyone, but especially to those that tend to run in the ocean or larger waters such as the Great Lakes.
As you also have read, I too have a 25 Thunder that is for sale. I will bring it to the top of the classifieds rather than double post everything, (saves bandwith?).
As with the others, If you have any questions please feel free to call me anytime.
There is a reason why Active Thunder owners are proud of their boats, both old and new.

Hey guys

I am looking into the 25 too, it looks like a awesome boat

thanks Rick, and Dan for answering some questions.

thunderdan 02-19-2003 11:11 PM

No problem Don. Good Luck

Gordo 02-22-2003 08:38 PM

Don,
Was great talking to you Saturday night.
Welcome to the board.

HebertNecessity 02-23-2003 08:05 PM

I was at Tails this Sat in Lighthouse Point, Fl and a guy pulled up next to us in a 97 Thunder, this boat looks great in the water, He's got alot of hours and loves it. Think of a 26 Sonic with a bolt on swim platform and alot sleeker. The cabin had more lounging room because the head and galley weren't there, who needs one an a 25 anyway. Great looking boat!

Tantrum 02-24-2003 02:13 PM

Add another 25 to the available list.
'98 Tantrum
502Mag making 550hp
Imco Powerflow exhaust
Imco external steering
Motor has 8hr on it
Drive has 0hr
Im in need of a bigger AT

thunderdan 02-25-2003 05:23 PM

Chris,

what are you looking at, the 28, 32 or 37?

Dan

Tantrum 02-28-2003 05:19 PM

Hey Dan
Id like to get a 32 but will still consider a 28 if the step works out. A 37 is a little big for my pocket and where I boat. Ill see where Im at when mine sells.

thunderdan 02-28-2003 08:51 PM

I am anxious to ride in the 28 stepped, I think the first one should be out in the summer. I do really like the 32 though.

I owe you a ride in the 37, let me know when you want to cash in.:D

Tantrum 03-01-2003 01:01 PM

I have to call AT this week to get a cabin door fixed. Im going to ask about the 28 again. Do you know who is getting it? Im going to be cautious with the step and dont really want to be the first (or second) out there. What have you heard about the 28?
You dont owe me a thing, it was our pleasure to have you and Brian join us at the NYC Run (if thats what you are refering to) HOWEVER, I cant wait to go for a ride. <big grin>

R Addiction 03-02-2003 09:21 AM

Chris, What happened to your door?

I really have not heard too much about the step except that the design should be done from Harry in the next month or so, so I am guessing late summer for the first one.

It was really nice that you took a guy and his son along with you guys in NYC. And we can certianly arrange the ride. You guys planning on doing the AC poker run? Maybe then?:eureka:

Jassman 03-03-2003 08:37 PM

You mean the 28 step is coming out before the 42, what gives Dan:rolleyes:

thunderdan 03-04-2003 07:17 AM

I do not know the answer to that one Jassman....

Jassman 03-04-2003 09:33 AM

Dan, have you ever considered politics:p

Tantrum 03-04-2003 01:20 PM

R Addiction;
One of my psychotic buddies tried to dive through it head first  . I dont know what he was thinking, I told him to hold on ;)

Dan;
The Atlantic City run is one of my favorites. Sounds verry interesting. Ill send you an email this week.

Chris

R Addiction 03-04-2003 02:46 PM

OUCH!!!! How did the door hold up?

Tantrum 03-05-2003 03:31 PM

R Addiction;
Thanks for the concern about the door. Unfortunatly it didnt fair very well. Steve's head happens to be particularly dense  and therefore the door realy didnt stand a chance. I did tell him if he started bleeding he was going to have to ride on the swim platform all the way home :D

R Addiction 03-05-2003 05:19 PM

Agreed!!! No bleedin' on the boat!!!! LMAO!!:D

HebertNecessity 03-06-2003 11:00 PM

Tantrum, I would have no reservations about being the first 28 step, Harry knows what he is doing and all the DDC hulls work well, call Tim @ Pulse he has a 31 Infinity DDC that is really about 28'6" and has a great ride, the pulse works great too.

What year is the boat? I have a 1994 Cannon 25' . I had a 454 Mag 365 HP. this boat scoots. I went to poker runs and people did not believe I only had a 365 Mag. They probably did not realize I ran this boat WOT. the entire time. I have since upgraded power. I now have a 500 hp performance series merc. the motor is fresh and it rocks! but I would say it is still under powered. I have 100% faith in this boat and motor. My personal feeling, if I'm not scared to drive it, it is not fast enough and therefore underpowered. My boat is mint and I am thinking of selling (37kish). if you are interested call 847 816 8468. The only reason for selling is a friend and I are thinking of building a race boat. I'm looking for a thunder hull in any condition to race P5.

Re: Opinion On 25 Tantrum

The 25' Tantrum is without a doubt one of the best riding rough water boat built. Solid as a rock, feels much bigger than it is, will easily handle open ocean, deep cockpit...the gunnels come up to your arm pits, nice size cabin with good headroom. The 454/bravo is an ok package for the boat...an HP 500 makes the boat come alive. I should know, driven plenty of them, used to work for Pat at the factory. Steve E.

Re: Opinion On 25 Tantrum

Jupiter Palsare,
I have a 1998 Tantrum with a 500 HP in it. My boat was originally built for the Smith Brothers Racing.
Seeing that you have run a lot of Tantrums what was a good speed for a 25" tantrum with a 500 HP in it for you?
I run my boat in mostly Pennsylvania and at WOT 1/2 tank of fuel, two people my best was 75.5 on GPS.
I have a Bravo 1 28 pitch prop that Mercury racing has done some work on it.
Your thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Active Mike
