Re: bad porpoising 3100
well 1" lower would be even with the bottom and that's not where a.o. says and several owners say it's supposed to be. right where it is is where they build all of them.
****ok update**** ran with 100lbs in the nose and it still bounces around 70-80 but if i charge thru it it goes away and ran out to 110 before i ran out of water. it also likes 1' chop or better so will a tab cure this or do i need to move engines? either way it's a sh*tload of cash again to fix. |
Re: bad porpoising 3100
different question, has anyone ever put the nsx canopies on a 31 and do they work?

Re: bad porpoising 3100
Sometimes **** happens and you have to work through it. Ok, the forward weight distribution was more effective than I thought it would be from the way you were describing the severity of the porpus, but at least now we know. I am not always right but I do know there is always an answer. On the bright side if you can run through it with 100 lbs in the nose I think you have made significant progress. It tells me that you do not have any twist in the boat or anything else really weird. it is only a mater of balance. you can get that balance either statically with weight in the nose or engines forward or you can get it aerodynamically with an AO tunnel tab or a combination of the both. The tunnel tab acts like an elevator on an airplane tail and will keep the nose down untill you have sufficient aerodynamic lift to carry the boat . It won't be that expensive. I think Ed will sell you a complete kit, tab, switch, rams, and hinges for approximately $2500.00. It should cure most if not all of your problem. Even if you have to run with 50 LBs in the front( much cheaper and easier than moving engines) it won't hurt your speed that much and between the two you should not have porpus at any speed and should be much happier.

Re: bad porpoising 3100
whats the a.o. tab made out of? is it billet or fiberglass? i know ed makes one out of glass that works but, i feel it would look odd on my boat.

Re: bad porpoising 3100
Its made out of glass, It works, and why do you think it looks odd.
why would you want a billet one which may not work. seams to me you want to keep experimenting. |

Re: bad porpoising 3100
I guess it is really a tunnel extension instead of tunnel tab....

Re: bad porpoising 3100
well, if one of my 200+ lb buddies steps on it i dont want it splitting or breaking off. i know it's under incredible pressure back there but if you can stand on it safely and it works....
i did get a chance to ride in a cat with the dana tab and like ed say's "you could park a tractor on it" it looked good and sturdy as well as functioned well. i just havent seen his in person thats all. |
Re: bad porpoising 3100

Re: bad porpoising 3100
Don-
The tunnel "extension" looks nice. If I'm looking at it correctly, a great feature is it has "built-in" stops to limit "down" tab. That's one thing missing on most billet tabs. Due |
