Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
http://www.offshoreonly.com/esvon/page-5707.html
I've had this boat on my desktop for awhile now. It's unique, and in the pics, looks cherry. That price, is just incredible. No power, yes, but I mean why so cheap? It almost makes me think my 20 year old ass can afford it? I just don't understand it. It's got some pretty cool little touches as well. So what do the experts say? How much to get that thing going mint! Is a staggered setup possible? How much do you think she weighs with a half cabin? Rob |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
OK, so I searched a little more, and found a few more facts.
- It mas made at the original Apache building -It was a charter boat in Florida, possibly in Europe as well. Which kind of sucks, it's probably had the hell beaten out of it. -A staggered setup doesn't look possible. It's got a funky hatch design so it seems. Even if it is a beaten charter boat, it doesn't look it. Kind of disapointing, but still.... Why so damn cheap? |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Staggered is possible but hatch is the least of worries. 3 motors would cost 100k.

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
There is another like that boat with low hours that might be for sale.

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Fred Kiekhaefer had an awsome one that had twins that where staggered, loved that boat. It was at a poker run up here when it ws brand new, back in the early 90's, I think.

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
only one of two triples that i know of and i have the other one.....
|
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
[QUOTE=Why so damn cheap?[/QUOTE]
triple engines cost a lot to maintain and the fact that is says comanche turn your apache guys off.......same bottom, different top deck,( cleaner in my opinion thats why i liked mine, plus triples in a 42) |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Yeah I guess I know what you're saying now. I like the older Apaches much better. Not for any particular reason.
Still though, $75K seems dirt cheap for that boat. I found a picture that showed "Paradigm" on the back of the boat. So I google searched it and finally found this. http://www.incredible-adventures.com...e_details.html 20,000lb. boat loaded  140 gallons of fuel burned hourly at 4k. And a replacement cost of $700,000 big ones. That's quite the depreciation. Rob |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
It would be more than 700 for a new 42 triple.
|
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
For what it's worth, I really like the Comanchees. There is no way I'll afford a triple engine boat, but a 36 that's a different story...
Out of curiosity, how many and what size Comanchees were built? Bryan |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
I think it's pretty cool as well. The wet sump 6's would take some of the price off as opposed to dry.

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
That boat is John Arrudas personal boat. He never really used it commercially because Turbine Marine took off so well.
It was sold to a guy who was going to repower it with turbines. Subsequently, the deal fell through and we already had the motors sold. The boat has been meticulously maintained like everything John has. If you've seen his shop you'd know. Now he is parting it out. He is way too busy with racing and buliding turbines to use it. The drives are available as well. Paradigm powerboats is now the brokerage arm of Turbine Marine |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Here are the real story on the boat or close to anyway: The boat was a charterboat in Florida for a few years until a guy from Sweden bought it and had it flown on a plane to Stockholm Sweden. He used it for I belive 2 seasons and traded it in on a 50 foot Nortech cat with 4 engines. The boat had 850-900 KE engines that was ready for freshning. As per my information he was dissapointet in the boats performance.

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Are these hulls the same hull mold that McManus is using for the Apache line?
I really like that 36 of yours, Comanche3six... Bryan |

I've got quite a few pictures of your boat as well. It's a sweet rig. There aren't many of those out there. :drink:
It would take me so long to get that 42' running if I bought it. Besides the fact that 93oct on thelake is close to $4.00. Would make a nice conversation piece though. :D |

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Sorry Ed I don't have any photos, PowerBoat Mag. did a story years ago where they race his boat against a fast car up or down the coast of florida. Its a sweet ride, take care, Steve.

Fred's boat was called Off Duty. It was a very detailed boat. The dash had some awesome laser engraving. Don't know what happened to that one. |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
Off Duty is in a warehouse in Ft. Lauderdale, last I heard. Steve

Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
You guys must be young - good memories ... Off Duty had lot of Bling back then. Nykamp - yes she was on one of the first Poker Runs up here - 90? Real looker -I'll try and dig up some pics. Tied up with Ohio Steel / young Reggie for lunch at Point West. Good times.. Quite the paint/colors for the day - think those were big water droplets?. Think she just said McManus on it. Was she one of the first from McManus Shop?
Yep, I remember too - PB did a build up with Fred in Off Duty and a Stunt driver in a Ferrari? racing from Miami to Key West. Fred had to stop for gas - go figure...and stunt guy got ticket. Was nice heli shot of car on bridge and Off Duty running next to it. Can't remember what power she had back then.. |

Eh, I've never been impressed with that boat at all. It used to be up here on Winnepesauke. Old man Fitzgerald owned it. Those guys must have bought it from him, it sat out front of Fitgerald Motorsports for quite some time.
Said it ran in the 60s, but that thing had a hard enough time getting on plane. :D He wanted somewhere in the area of $170-$190 for it. It's been on boat trader for a long time as well. |
Re: Ok, so what gives? 42' Comanche
To each his own, but I really like Snakedance. Why has it been for sale so long?
|
