Default Apache Cats

Does any body have any info or onsite on these. I wasn't even aware they built them until I saw the one for sale here on OSO. Were there many built? Are they strictly race hulls?
Were they any good? I have bee thinking of a project and this may be what I was lokng for. Ilike the heritage behind the name and the fact that I've never seen them on the water.

Thumbs up Re: Apache Cats

I was told by the people at the old Martin Marine that there was only a few built some race and some pleasure. The guy that has his for sale www.apachecat.com has had it gone through and he is trying to get rid of it pretty bad. They are an awsome looking boat!

I remember seeing the original one at the Grand Haven race in the mid '80's- maybe '85. Beautiful boat! They had Lambos in it if I remember and it DNF'ed. I seem to recall them pulling the plugs from the motors and it blowing tons of water out when they cranked them. The water was worse than I had ever seen- I think the open boats average speed was mid 40's. I was impressed that it didn't break.

They were very rare- I've only seen one or 2 for sale over the years. I think Bobby Moore had a race version for quite some time on his F/S list. A nice pleasure version with 3's sold for just over $100K a few years back. I've never been inside one but I can only assume they're built like an Apache- tough but heavy. Probably double the weight of a present-day hull. The boats had a very shallow freeboard- similar to the Cougar 38. Good for racing- maybe not so much for a pleasure boat.

Unless you've already got one scoped out, I wouldn't get my heart set on one- they were rarer than rare. I thought someone was re-making them though.

Yeah a company calld Blue Lighting is trying to make them now. I would stay far, far away from them............ They don't make them like Apache did.

I remember seeing one with a "joker" theme. If I remember, it sold on boattrader.com, I think it had 3A's?

There's that poker card themed Apache Cat for sale currently on boat trader.

I've always questioned the apachecat.com boat. It's been in the classifieds forever. Such a bad ass looking cat.

But I've never heard them brought up, until this post. Looks to be wel worth the $$$ to me.

WARPAINT is kind of unique. It is not one of the 41' cats that Apache built. Micheal Peters contracted Apache to build the mold. After some legal problems fell upon Apache (we all know what that was about) the molds were taken to Ontario Yachts were the boat was finally completed under Micheal Peters supervision. That was around 1993. She is an unbelievable boat. Watch for us in Supercat with OSS this year
