The gas is nothing compared to drive & blower motor parts!

Stop trying to scare me, If something breaks then it breaks, Ill fix it. Hell I shoveled 40 + grand into the baja over the years, rebuilt the engines 3 times, had to replace EVERYTHING from top to bottom on that boat since it was so far gone. This wont be any different, if it breaks, I'll be out of the game until I can fix it. If I need a machinist, I know LAZ at Mesa, great guy and I know and have talked to Herb Stotler about these engines and seems to be a fantastic guy. It is what It is. Cant worry about what might happen 2 or 3 years from now, Ill just deal with it when I get there. Herb told me though, if you take care of these and keep up on the maintenance schedule you will be good for a very long time. Lifter changes, valve adjustments, check for leaks in the headers periodically, fuel lines and fittings for corrosion, things of that sort, oil changes ETC, so I am hoping ill be okay but if I blow one up that is what guys like Laz and Herb are there for, they got your back!
For the record, I think Herb and Laz are very reasonably priced for doing entire engines down to just valve jobs so im not going to freak out at what could happen, just worry about it if it comes to that when it does.

You're right- push hard on the sticks and they'll push hard on your wallet.

What's scary is the parts situation on those #3 drives. The rarer they get the more expensve they'll get. 850 is a bunch more than 3's were designed for- take it easy on those holeshots and watch the throttles on re-entry. I got tired of fixing mine and put the 6's on. I'm sure I'll break those too!

I dont have 3's I have #3a's so they are beefier and less expensive to fix than the 3's were. (Made sure of that, I have the 26 spline prop shafts) plus one of the drives is brand new!!!! Got a little lucky there.

I hear ya. High gas isn't keeping me off the water and as far as something breaking. My thought is if it was built by man it will break someday you just fix it and move on. Have fun with your boat thats why you bought it.
