Anybody know what the story is with this beauty. The arch is pretty interesting. LOL.

baywatch 09-26-2007 07:35 AM

By the looks of those engines I think you'd be lucky to get it to do much more than start.

sakoutis3 09-26-2007 07:52 AM

That boat was originaly from up here in Jersey the previos owner transplanted down south. I was told he donated the boat to some charity and now its up for sale. I saw it last year when it was up here for sale it looked okay but i didn't look under the tarp.

Eric.

It runs upper 70's, I've been on it..... :hitfan:

Everyone is an expert.......

From what I know, the Drives/Trans were rebuilt within the last 2 years (boat sat unused for a year). Engines were also rebuilt not to long ago. If memory serves me correctly engines were 588 cu. in., Big Chief's with tunnel rams about 750 hp a piece.

Interior was new but the color leaves less to be desired... Paint needs minor touch-up (it was painted by some people I know back in the 80's) and the powdercoated pieces need attention. Also needs new guages and dash. Remove the arch if you don't like it.....

Fuel tank has been mentioned..... I don't know the details but I know the owner never had a problem in the 15+ years that he owned the boat...

Contrary to what some have suggested in the past...the owner decided to give the boat away to a charity..... The marina probably bought the boat back from the charity and are now selling it on their own....

You can probably get the boat for the right price.......

This isn't rocket science..

cosmic12 09-26-2007 03:37 PM

If only I had a heated warehouse to redo it in as it should be done I would be look'n real hard at that one.:(

Panther 09-26-2007 03:53 PM

My buddy has copies of $50K worth of work done to this boat not long ago...

His opinion, since he knows the boat and owner better than I do is that the dash, interior and wiring needs attention.

Some of the $50K included, drives, trans, new cylinder heads and components.... list goes on....

I don't need a boat this big...otherwise I would have gotten it myself. It would be fun project and one that would bring the retail value up with the rest of the other 41 Apaches that are for sale.

That 36 of yours does not have room for the crib changing table stroller three tote bags full of clothes and assorted baby crap. :cool-smiley-011:

baywatch 09-26-2007 05:03 PM

That is funny about your comment on the changing table in the 36' . That is why my wife said we could get ours. My wife looked at the pics and said "cool it has a built in changing table, I suppose if you really want it."

I thought that 41' looked like an interesting project. I am not ready for a 41' quite yet and I have a few more years to enjoy my 36'. The 70 hours I put on her this year are 70 of the best hours of my life!!

changing table is located on the STBD side, it's approximately 2ft by 4 ft in length. On the opposite side there is a wetbar where I can fix myself a drink when I start loosing my mind and to clean the crap off my fingers from chainging the baby....:hitfan:

I Ran With This Boat Up In New York In 2000 We Ran Side By Side Under The George Washington Bridge. The Boat Look Good It"s A Good Fealing When Two Great Boat Are Together And The Throddles Pinned To The Dash.

baywatch 09-26-2007 09:01 PM

Panther,

My little man just turned 18 months and loves the Apache. We ask him what kind of boat he has and he puts his hand over his mouth and makes an indian sound.

My changing table is on the starboard side as well. There is a nifty little compartment on mine that my wife has full of diapers and wet wipes.

Part of the reason we got an Apache was safety and the ability to cruise with a small child and not get rocked. We have definately been impressed and are very glad we finally pulled the trigger and got one.

jafo 09-26-2007 11:21 PM

I would love to have that boat; an Apache 41 has always been a dream of mine. We sold our offshore boat (AT) when we had our first child a little over two years ago, and have missed the fun of it ever since. Then I come over to this forum and read of changing tables in the Apaches:D

I was an airworthiness inspector/IA on private/corporate jets for over 25 years and am now sem-retired; still doing some consulting and contracting for a few owners in Chicago. A project like this would be right up my alley since I can do all of my own work and have a little more time on my hands..... stuff like this always comes around when cash flow is a little low:(

BBILL1174 09-27-2007 07:22 AM

KIDDS That boat belonged to my friend. I still have a few pictures from that day under the GW. The boat is not as bad as everyone thinks it is. Its a great deal for someone who appreciates these old boats.

Cool!!! We're looking forward to next summer with our first kid on the boat!! I expect that we wont be making weekend lunch runs to the Patio Bar in Pt. Pleasant or Braccos on Long Island.... I'm expecting more overnight types of trips!!!!!!

My father always told me when I was growing up; "It's cheaper to run the boat taking overnight trips then staying local or making lunch runs! :ernaehrung004:

Do you have the same changing table? See below! :cool-smiley-011:

We have what some of you refer to as a "changing table", but since the kids are 21 and 18, we are proud to refer to ours as the "wet bar" and it's "always open." :ernaehrung004::p:D

No no no, the wet bar is on the opposite side, directly across from the changing table! :ernaehrung004::ernaehrung004:

We don't have that. Ours is just a padded area with the drawers below it. We got ripped off!!! :p:p

Below the "changing table" (that's just not right :D) is a cooler and sink. Looks like your "wet bar" is the cooler. Yes/no?

Queenie 09-27-2007 09:05 AM

OK, now that I look closer at your changing table, our entire top pics up to where the cooler/sink are. They are not out in the open at all.

Honestly, I like the cooler/sink area below the top because I can store stuff in there and it's not bouncing around below in the cabin while we're running.

In addition to the wet bar, you will also find an Indian head dress, bow and arrow (suction cup of course), Indian Pumpkin Seeds, Candy Corn, Squaw necklace, a mini-drum.....our friends......where would we be without them LOL! :p:D

Yeah, the wet bar has a sink and area to store a cooler. Not sure if it was an option but I suppose you could install a fridge if you wanted. A handfull of the 36's had stand-up chitters on the STBD side.

The cabin's are somewhat similiar, although the 36' has almost 6ft headroom at the start and about 5'8" futher forward with a queen size v-berth ahead and couches midway. We have storage on the left side (under the changing table) and also another storage compartment on the right side further back.

I know the 36' has more headroom than ours. If we took out the padded ceiling below plus some of the dash padding, we'd have more headroom, but it's not worth all that.

We have no head....just a bucket in what use to be the head in the middle up near the V-berth.

Our V-berth is huge. We could fit 3 people up there, plus the couches are both a little over 6' long on both sides.

We had a fridge in our Stinger and thought we would want to put one in this boat, but the cooler is really insulated and for the few times a year we use the fridge, it's not worth the time and money.

Air conditioning? That's something I'd like to have, just not sure how it would hold up. Some say not a problem, others say don't bother. We never had air in the Stinger and honestly only needed air a few times over the last 5 summers.

Bad and old habits die hard LOL! Remember, it's only been 4 weeks since we've owned the boat. I still look for the entire contents of the V-berth to be on the cabin floor where I use to put all the Stinger stuff cause that's where it always ended up! :D

I do have to say that in all the running we've done the past few weeks, I've only had to go down into the cabin once and pick stuff up that was left on the "changing table" and "wet bar"! :p

baywatch 09-27-2007 03:52 PM

Panther,

Ours (Cabin) is exactly the same as yours. Sand toys fit nicely in the compartments under the changing table.

We are getting ready to head to the lake tonight. Our little man will be attending his First OSS race this weekend, it should be a great time even with small fry in tow.

He cought the beginning of the Discovery show about Miss Geico last night and kept saying "Vroom Vroom."

You guys will have a blast with your little one next season!!

You should broker the boat. What you've posted it 10 times what Peter knows about the thing. All he could tell me is "it starts and it's useable- we know nothing else".

SinkorSwim 09-28-2007 07:06 AM

Wasn't that the 41 that had a matching Chevrolet dually with it when it first hit the market back in the day?

His statement is accurate but doesn't do a darn thing to move the boat. I'm surprised he doesn't know more..... A few phone calls is all it would take....

I work in sales for a living and if I didn't know my products I wouldn't be able to sell a damn thing.....:hitfan::D

Thanks Lucy. It took my husband almost a month to talk me into looking at the Apache. We already sold an '88 and this was an '89 and I wasn't interested in an "older boat."

So, I ate my words.....I was wrong.....older, in this case, is better! I can't see us ever selling this boat. Rob only dreamed of owning an Apache....still hard to believe we own one today. I am sold 100%.

Shoud mention my grandfather introduced me to boating. A pic of my first comand. At the time of this pic my grandfather was blind. He built the 27 foot boat I am at the wheel of. There are pics of me at the wheel in diapers.
