ran great too..he was a pace boat in OC a couple years ago..I was the race official..big water day..alot of fun for us!!..
I'd love to have that 45 if I were looking to get into a basic deep vee hull "muscle boat".
I'd have to assume one of the reasons, is that it would be hard for someone without the cash to get a bank to loan money on it, and the guys with $60-$100k in cash, are buying newer boats.
Hot Duck spent a lot of money on updates for that boat, and it REALLY looked great when he owned it.

correct, the only other one to get close was Apache heritage when as a sit down they couldn't see past the bow, the bow was cut down and reglassed therefore making it shorter.
As for this 45, When will bought it he turned it into a solid 85 mph pleasure boat with side by side twins. I do know that there are certain things that will need to be addressed if someone wants to redo it. also the motor plates for the 3rd engine are still in there under the floor.
Would it be a great project, yes. Would it be an expensive project? depends on what you want. worthwhile ? for being the only one that was truly made as a 45 and the history, to me yes.

why did they make only one 45? It seems out of all 3 (41,45,47) it would have the best power to weight ratio and be the fastest?
They are all the same basic hull all the way down to a cig 38 so my guess is its all about power and weight.
41 has two motors and the 45 and 47 have three..

Now keep in mind this is just my viewpoint;
Back in 1989, racing and boating technology was very different, just look at how much has changed in 20 years. Offshore racing was different then as well, these boats were made heavy with big horsepower to move them, also in 1989 running 90-100 was super fast compared to now when pleasure boats are topping out over 100. Racing was offshore, like Horba is planning and the Miami to Bimini run. back then cutting edge was built heavy and big blown motors. some of the boats were layed up lighter, but had a tough time in bigger seas, bounced a lot. I recall a Craig Barrie story of one being so light they couldn't control it.
As for hp to weight, I think the 41 has them all beat, Phil's 41 flat out dominated as did Warpath and the Banner boat, then came Allez Vite and some others. Apache heritage crushed because it was big and fast and the conditions were right for it. Omar is on here and he may pipe in. Honestly I'm not sure how many 47's were purpose built race, other than heritage, Lucky strike/ ptm express, tweet revenge/paleface.
How many 41's were straight race set up?
How many 47's were straight race set up?
