What a great Apache! I know it's seen some rough times, but it's on the road to recovery!

BattleCry 05-02-2010 01:18 AM

Frank, do you have any pictures of Fred's 36 that Bobby just redid the stringers and transom on?

Thanks
Big Andy

Panther 05-02-2010 05:15 PM

Andy, I spoke with Bobby and will have some pictures to post at the beginning of the week.

Can't wait to see them as well...

BattleCry 05-03-2010 12:43 AM

Just curious. I set up the deal on the gimbals and am curious how everything worked out. I still didn't understand Fred's desire to stick with TRS drives but, its his boat.

BattleCry 05-03-2010 12:45 AM

Btw...Who's boat did Fred buy? I heard it came from Jersey.

Off the top of my head I don't recall the name of the guy who owned it here in NJ.

Attached are some pictures. The transom was water logged and there was some damage to the stringers and floor.. The boat was sitting at a marina in N.J. for a few years with about 6-8 inches of water in the engine compartment, cockpit and cabin.. You can see the water line in a few pictures.

It was one of those projects wehre it got a lot worse as they started to take it apart.. The boat is finished and being re-rigged at the owners shop in GA. I should have some more pictures at a later date, these are the before shots.

Konrad maybe?????

J-Bonz 05-03-2010 10:00 PM

WOW, I thought I had a lot of work on my 21....... Was this the one that listed for sale at a good price on Miami Craigs List....?

Jr.

Panther 05-04-2010 08:06 AM

I'm not sure J-Bonz. It was listed in the OSO classifieds at one time and the price was good, that's all I remember.

Comanche3Six 05-04-2010 04:08 PM

Who can post that famous Hammerhead in flight pic?

delsol 05-04-2010 09:02 PM

That is the 36 that was sitting at Typhoon for quite a few years, the owners name was Jim Hague. It was for sale on here for 45K, came with 525sc's and trs. It was, and I'm sure will be a nice boat...

Thanks for the info! Here's some more pictures during the project. Curtis Chapman was the original Apache carpenter who cut the stringers, bulkheads and transom on this boat back in 1992...

When you redid the tansom did you have to re-do the ash lining?

For the record, I didn't do any of the work. Bob Saccenti and his well known professional team did the work on these boats.

Thank You Frank!

I know Fred and Kirk and JoJo. Fred and I were talking about this project at the Miami Boat Show. He told me that he wanted a reliable, boat everyday, power and drive set up. I told him he was crazy for wanting to put TRS's back on it and for the price and power, that, Bravo's were the obvious choice. He has no intention of Konrads at this point.

If you think his 36 is cool, you should see his mud truck. It is insane.

Big Andy

I agree, great work Bobby!

delsol 05-07-2010 06:55 AM

for reliability and future upgrade ability i would stick with the TRS's on that 36. I think they are better than the bravo 1's and alot less expensive than xr's (which as far as i am concerned are not any stronger stock than the TRS)

nice thing is with the trannies the trs are nice around the dock. And it never hurts having the engines a little forward.

just my opinion

Panther 05-07-2010 11:29 AM

I had TRS on my Scarab and overall I was fairly happy with them. I was running 550 hp in roughly an 8500 lb boat with deep x-dimension. I broke somewhere between 3-4 lowers between 1998 and 2004 when I owned the boat and a few transmissions in between. Usually the trannies broke because the drive locked up when the lower gears broke.

I've always like the gimbals on the TRS much better than the Bravo. Much stronger in my opinion.. Also, the upper half of the TRS was somewhat bullet proof!

Then you have the Konrad back-up option if you want to increase the power.

It's not all bad from where I see it, to each their own! :)
