you are always implying something about this boat...if you have something to say come out and say it
It is not the first time you have been negative
does the boat have structural issues or you just don't like it because it is 45 instead of 47

Don't want to do it publicly then PM me

80mph is fine for some people, cruise at 65, big deal
remember it is what the owner wants out of it that matters

Sean,

I could have bought that boat and nice trailer for 21k... Now I'm kicking myself. No idea on where the molds are, unless they went to the profile 42 guys... then I know exactly where they are... "Challenger" has em.

i ran across the Aronow molds for sale on some website a couple years ago but can't seem to remember where. Sean why don't you do something with my molds. Someone should, as much as I want to it is not in the cards right now. I guess things will turn around and I will be back on that project.

The boat absolutely does NOT need three engines to run well. Kid Apache knows these old boats well, but he is wrong with that statement. I don't know why, but like others said, he has always been negative about this boat. Notice that he did use this boat's original name for his screen name though. Hummm. Something going on here. He even tried to build a new 45' Apache a few years ago. He may trash this boat, but deep down inside he likes the 45. Don't let him fool you. It's like the school boy that picks on a girl because he likes her. :p

As for power, I considered changing the boat back to a triple when I bought it, but Phil Lipschutz, Tres Martin and a lot of other people told me not to and that it would be a waste of time and money. I don't know about anybody else, but I trust the opinion of these guys. I think that Tres put it best. He said that horsepower is horsepower no matter if it comes from two engines or three engines. Two thousand horsepower is two thousand horsepower no matter how you cut it. The third engine adds more weight, adds another drive in the water (more drag) and increases the maintenance and fuel costs.

As for speed, with the twin 1000s that we had in the boat it will run 79mph, while carrying 400 gallons of fuel. Lighten the fuel load and the speed picks up. Tres had it running in the mid 80s getting it dialed in down in Florida. The boat was VERY picky about props. After a ton of testing, we decided to try a set of supercat props (from the Team Virgin boat) on the Apache just to see what would happen and it really changed the attitude of the boat. So, to make a long story short we had a duplicate set made and that is the prop we ran on the boat. I still have those props in the garage. When I traded the boat I let it go with set of stock Merc props on it.

Finally, as for where the boat is now I am not 100% sure. I traded it in to Fastboats back in April of 2008 for the 39 Top Gun that I am running now. From there I think it went to the Carolinas somewhere. I think it was at a place called Carolina Performance Marine if I remember correctly. When I traded the boat it had zero structural issues. Like many old race boats, if you climb up into the empty bow area you can see areas that were patched and/or strengthened over the years, but there is nothing wrong with that as long as it is done correctly, which it was. I ran the devil out of that boat in all sea conditions and never had a problem with it.

I am unfortunately not on the board very much in the summer so please feel free to PM me with any questions and I will answer them to the best of my ability. I can tell you that an Apache is not a cheap boat to build or to own because, like any old boat or old car for that matter, they need a lot of TLC and they also need a lot of horsepower to make them run well. However, in return you get a classic boat, an incredible ride and incredible handling.

DirtyMoney 09-28-2009 07:04 AM

Sean Brian is just storing my molds for me right now. He is building off of a different bottom all together. I don't know what to do with mine right now. I just don't see building a boat any time soon. Todd I will try to call you today.

If you need a number I can get it for you!!!!!

chewiekw 09-28-2009 11:59 AM

To my knowledge there was only 1 45 race boat built correct? RDS/Kid Apache kid?

Was it built from its own mold or did it come from a 47 mold? Why was there only 1 built?

Scott

Do you have the 41' or 47' molds? There was a 47' mold that somoene in Ohio had and Bobby built the person a 47' with a 36' deck a number of years ago... The sides weren't perfect. The owners took the boat home to rig it and somehow it burned. :(

I wonder if he needs a new deck part to start with? Last I saw the boat it was here in Ga. derigged and burnt across the deck pretty badly and down the side in front of the fairing.

I said Profile 42 at challenger,,,but meant Axiom 42..

For the same reason that I also kept the spare set of props, the spare drive and both spare transmissions. These parts were never part of the deal. I did not trade those parts with the boat because I was already losing my a$$ on the deal and those parts allowed me to recover some of that loss. I sold everything except one of the transmissions and I will sell that eventually.

As for the performance of the boat, the Merc props that went with my Apache were brand new and did OK, but those custom props really made the boat come alive. This is no different than the package I got in the deal. The Cigarette had some nice 5 blade Hydros on it when I got it, but they were too small for the boat. The boat would hit the rev limiters with throttle left. They worked OK overall, but for the best possible performance and top speed, the props that I got with the boat were not what it needed. No big deal. We just had to try some different props until we found the right ones.

I got a phone call from a guy named Parker (I think that was his name) a few months after I traded the Apache. He had a shop somewhere in the Carolinas and was planning to drop some crazy power into the 45, do the cosmetic work and make it a show boat for his business. He also told me that they were doing the burned 47 as well. If I remember correctly he was going to use the 47 for his "every day" boat and use the 45 for poker runs and other events to advertise his shop. That was my understanding anyway because I remember thinking how lucky he was!!

Hey Will,
This is Parks that bought your '45 from my friend Randy at FastBoats.Com. Thanks for the only sensible post that I have seen about this boat since this thread started. This is the 2nd year that I have had this boat and it is in the same excellent shape as when I bought it from randy--I have freshened the motors since I bought it and have bumped them up to 600 cubic inches. Somewhere around 1100HP each. I am planning on adding full custom paint job as we spoke about last summer. I have run several props with the boat and did not know about the supercat props. If you still have them I would like to buy them--if not if you have the dimensions I will have a set made. The boat runs 80 as it is set-up now--low fuel, light load and running on the lake. As for the '47 this is the original War Party boat and yes it did burn. I am 4 weeks away from completing the glasswork. We have taken our time with this boat and I promise that it will be a showpiece when completed. I plan to CNC machine every part for the rigging of this boat. This boat was one of a kind when it was built and it will be one of a kind when I am finished with it. Thanks and stay in touch--Parks. Email me about the [email protected].

You got parts of the story right. The 47 mold was sold at the government liquidation auction at the shop in Hollywood. Two gentlemen from Illinois bought it and several other parts and pieces at the auction. One of the gentlemen had Bobby build him a 47', the one that you have pictured. It was completed in late '98. I can still remember him pulling up at my house at SIU Carbondale when I was in college. You are right, the sides weren't perfect. The boat was rigged with triple 600's. The owner and I took it to LOTO Labor Day weekend in 2000. The boat ran great and was light. It was a six man stand up with no cabin and an extra 300 gallons of fuel built into the bow. The boat burnt in the Spring of 2001. The only part that was left was some of the bow. The sides, engine room, transom, and dash were completely gone.

That mold had made its rounds. It stopped at another company in Miami, a company in Ft. Meyers, a company in North Florida, at the owner's business in Illinois, and finally came to rest currently in Michigan at Saber where they straightened all that was wrong with it. Hence, Saber's announcement a few years ago of a new 47'.
