41 Apache "Only Rumors"

Okay People, Someone please tell me how an old 89 41 Apache can get a step built into the bottom when it was never done like that at the factory? What would the reliablity of the bottom be having something that drastic done to it? I remember when this boat was forsale years ago and a friend of mine in Miami told me to run the other way from that boat. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o41852-en.html

Panther 09-13-2011 04:58 PM

The step was added afterwards. The boat was rebuilt recently by bob saccenti, creator of Apache.

delsol 09-14-2011 06:38 PM

From what i read in old threads on here it was actually a new front piece that was bonded onto the old bottom to form the step.

If you do some searching on here there is a thread about it.

Wonder how it runs compared to conventional hull?

Notice that it was the only one. Had it be a reason.

Yeah, cost to do it! :lolhit:

scot, its an apache so every dollar you spend on upgrades just gets tacked on to the asking price :party-smiley-004:

DrGaryDC 09-21-2011 01:13 PM

So what kind of numbers does a stepped apache run with 950's

So I found out this weekend that according to Brett at PBB that the step on "Only Rumors" is a piece that was bonded to the bottom of the boat and can be removed. Anybody that knows Scott, tell him that he would probably sell the boat if he took the step off and refinished the bottom. I know I would be more interested. Just food for thought.

. I thought u were going to call scott? If he had to sell it I'm sure he would do that but my guess is he has left it on since he uses the boat and likes the way the step affects the cruising attitude of the vessel. Plus, it keeps him out of the boost into the mid 70mph's. I'd give him a call at the cell # I gave you and he can explain it in great detail.

kcsteve124 09-26-2011 10:26 AM

Thanks Baywatch, I decided to go look at it first before I decided to call or not. Looked at the Chief boat also and put my feelings about it out in "General Disscusion" Probably didn't win any friends there either.

MikeyFIN 09-26-2011 10:48 AM

*IMO that step is way too small to do any good... Steps like this are used on Cats and they use other aerodynamical aids too...
Besides Who needs steps.... Yesterday Step bottomed boats raced at speeds between 45-80 in N.Y....mostly at under 60. Someone said the waves was 3-4s but must say I believe the seas were bigger.

That's a pretty broad question Doc.... a side by side will run in the low to mid 80's a short stagger should run in the upper 80's maybe 90 on a perfect day and a full stagger in the 90's and in the case of this boat Bobby Moore put that step onto it and in my opinion I would take it off!!!

well since I used to own one I can pretty much tell you with the horsepower around 850 it ran a solid 80 everyday no matter what...on its best day it ran 84.....now jump on the boost and put good gas in it and throw some more lead in it, it would touch 90....

I was on this boat ( Only Rumors )for the ShootOut all weekend. I know Brett at PPB is changing the posting to reflect 900's. The dyno pulls with the pulleys from COBRA reflect a bit over 860 right now. I have pics of the dyno screen actually. Side by Side this boat did high 80's all weekend. I think it has a taddle tale GPS speedo on it actually ...should still be on there. I have been in Lake Michigan with the same pulleys do low 90's. I just checked my hand held Garmin 60CSx and 84.5 is on there from the last day at LOTO. If the above posts are correct. I can only assume the step is the reason for the extra MPH. Naples took a pick with it running right on the step on a pretty good pass. I am the guy in the passenger seat. :-)

Maybe we should have this conversation over a drink somewhere!!!

Sean, This is Troy. ( The three of us went to LOTO and had a blast that weekend, the boat is just fantastic... I am sure you have seen the pics. She really turned out nice )I run my business in CP out of the same address as the shop. You should swing by sometime. Perhaps everyone can get together for a drink.

Stinson the one he keeps talking up has 750's (persume he's talking about exciter because that's the only one I know of with 750's). Hence The LOL. Your post only affirms he has no idea what he is talking about. Thanks...

Sorry, my pet peeve is people that ask a question and then know everything. Better yet, claim they are buying or have bought something and come to find out it was all BS. Reminds me of Darr.

kcsteve124 10-04-2011 08:41 PM

Baywatch, I only go by what the owner of ExcitR told me about how fast his boat ran. I never said with a fact that it would run mid 80s all day long. That comes from the owner,as far as buying a boat I am still looking and I am going down to Mark Adams shop and over to McManus next month.

How about some place a little more neutral and without your 2 partners???

Exactly why I suggested in the other thread not to believe everything you hear. ;)

People always blow up speeds, it's dock racing. In some cases, when there's a personal agenda, they downplay the speeds to put a negative spin on things... Case in point, the Chief has always run upper 90's, not low 90's like was posted in the other thread. Call bob Saccenti, he'll share with you the real speed numbers on that boat. Heck, my Apache 36' run's upper 80's with 800's and I constantly get feedback from other people that my boat runs in the 90's...go figure..

As far as a 41' Apache. My friend owned Apache Warrior and I also did some mechanical work on it a few times. It was a full-cabin 41' pleasure with short-stagger and 750's. The boat ran mid 70's regularly and upper 70's with a pair of expensive Herring labbed props all stretched out... :drink:

kcsteve124 10-05-2011 03:59 PM

Thank you to everyone, I stand corrected!!!!

KCSteve, Brett was right on the step. It is bonded onto the bottom of the boat. It was designed by Bobby Moore, and is the exact step that was used on the F2 38 Top Guns. You should get in touch with Bobby Saccenti if you are curious about it. I understand if you are a purest it is probably not your thing.

I have spent MANY hours on this boat. It used to have #3's on it. Since the addition of the #6's the boat has really come in to its own. It is nimble, and feels like a knife in the water.

kcsteve124 10-07-2011 10:40 PM

Thanks for that info,Sean had told me the same thing.I am going to look at a couple of Apaches in Miami next month (in addition to NASCAR) and hope to be down to a short list when I come back. I had a gentleman tell me about another 41 Apache that is for sale that is not advertised anywhere which is also something I am looking going to look at out east. Thanks to everyone for their input it has been a great help.
