24' and 28' Apache molds???
Anyone know where the molds Eric Froberg was building the 28 and 24 under the Cherokee brand are and if those boats are in production? I was interested in the 24. I talked to Eric way back when and he did produce a new 24 that was sold in Florida. He sent me a brochure pack with pics. Frobergs 24 was a shortened version of the 28, I don't believe it was a larger version of the Scout that I thought I saw some pics on OSO. A google and came up with this info,
MIC: UPI Status: Inactive Company: CHEROKEE POWERBOATS INC Company Official: ERIC FROBERG Parent Company: Parent MIC: Address: 13800 NW 19TH AVE SUITE 16 City: OPA LOCKA State: FL Zip: 33054 Country: Phone: 3056870277 Fax: In Business: Wednesday, March 30, 1994 Out of Business: Wednesday, December 26, 2001 Date Modified: Wednesday, December 26, 2001 Type: Outboards, Open Motorboats, Jon Boats Inboards, Cabin Cruisers Additional Address: Comments: UNLIMITED POWER BOATS ACQUIRED THE MOLD FROM APACHE MARINE (APH) FOR THE 28 FT BOATS. From Bob told me Eric borrowed the molds for Cherokee 28. I have only seen 1 24ft, they do look like a smaller version of the 28. Very sharp. I always liked that 1 also. Have you called Bob Saccenti? I would start there.

Apache has them, as in Mark Mc Manus, he recently built a new 28 and it turned out really nice.
|
He did? Any Pics? Your not talking about the Green one on his website are you? Thats one is from the 90's he redid that one.
I know Mcmanus was the GM of Apache at one time or something like that, but what is his real connection to Apache? |
BTW I am not trying to start anything, I am just wondering? I know he had a line similar to APACHE named COMMANCHE. I am younger so i dont know all the in and outs.

Mark was at Apache for the Kramers from the start, the 28 he built is new not the green one.
|
From what I understand Saccenti started Apache after he raced a Squadron 12 39ft named Apache that Aronow had designed. I heard he brought the Kramers in because of their cash investment.

All of the 24, 28, and 36 molds were awarded to Mark McManus as a result of the Federal lawsuit against Thad Allen and his Apache LLC debacle. From my recollection, the federal court determined that McManus owned all rights to the Apache trademarks, the molds, and proprietary build processes.
NyKamp knows his stuff. McManus recently built a new 28 with the Merc 377 Scorpion engines and lots of custom features. Preety cool boat. I'm pretty sure he'll build a 24 for you if you're interested. |
Ok that clears up thing a bit, Thank you guys for the info. It makes sense after reading the posts by Thad Allen and his Apache LLC crew. I wonder how the new 28 with twin 377's runs? I have thought about swapping my 502 mags for twin built 406's a couple times. But I wasnt sure how it effect the balance of my boat. Does anyone have pics of the new 28? I am thinking in this economy the 24s and 28s would be homeruns. Again guys thank you for the info, glad it didnt start a siht storm.
