28 brave MPH with ??? power ?? props
What kind of MPH are you people seeing with a 28 brave on GPS !!!!!
Power ??? Prop and pitch ???? Try not to strech the truth to bad !!!! Any body running set back / stand off boxes ??? http://i36.tinypic.com/2500z2b.jpg |
I have a 2002 Brave, lighter then the older ones. I run 502 EFI MAGS, Bravo Drives with 1.36 Ratios no boxes. 24 rev up merc props. I get sold high 70's no matter the conditions. Have hit mid 80's with light fuel no gear and only a couple people on board. The Brave doesnt like flat water you will need some chop to get the best out of it. I have been told by a couple people if I swapped out the 1.36s for 1.50s and larger pitch props i would pick up some top end. Not really a top end boat, wave crusher YES. Great ride and handles like a dream. AWESOME boat, enjoy and have some fun. Happy 4th Guys. Enjoy and be safe.

I always wondered what the Brave would do with ext boxes and shorties? Mine had a pretty deep X dim, and would poirpose if allowed -- i think ext boxes with -2 shorties would free up 5 mph.
My old one is running around 76mph with 26 bravo 1's at about 5500 rpm, the engines dynoed at 600hp at 6000rpm --without looking at the dyno sheets i would assume that at 5500 theyre around the 550 mark with the 700's/ xr's that i had in it the best i saw was 85 mph with herring 32 5 blade props -- 1.5 ratio drives I think there was alot left in the setup on the drive end of things-- they are heavy, mine weighed in at 7200 lbs dry... How'd the imco's work ? |
Mel Riggs had a older 28" Brave in the shop when I picked up my Brave. That one had 600hp built bb and imco boxes on it. He said it woke the boat up when they did that to it.
|
Did Mel mention any numbers?
|
No but I will give him a call this week and ask him.
|
Ok I just spoke with Mel, Mel said the older Brave with 600hp bb with boxes ran about 92mph to 95mph. I called Bobby to ask him some questions about running my boat and I brought up the boxes idea. He said running Boxes on the Brave is not a good idea. He was saying the boat is a little too small for the boxes. He also commented on the fact that boxes make the boat a wild ride. Center of Gravity and weight at that point are all wrong. I hope this helps. I have spoken to Bobby many times now about my boat. He always takes my call and always has some really advise. Plus he is really fun guy to talk with. Great Person and Awesome Boat Builder.

So are you guys running three blades for four. I have 502's running three blade 28 pitch props. No idea on a true top end. Also thinking about adding nose cones this winter.

Wow that sounds like an ultra cool boat. But in my opinion you may not really be going fast enough that you would "need " nose cones, not saying you dont still want some, By the way if you do I have several brand new IMCO cones for some reason here. Some with water pickups some not. Later...Love your boat by the way, and you'll have to stop by to see my new boat, or should i say kayak.
|
I am running 4 blades and 1.36 ratio. You must be running 1.50s if your turn that pitch. Post a pics of your boat. Btw I had it out today, water was glass. Had my buddy with who weighs about 280 to 300. And over a half tank. 78 was no problem. I can get about 4600 to 4700 rpms out of them. I played with the trim tabs and out drive trim the way Bobby said.

I still need to replace the drive trim gauge, trim tab gauge and speedo since none of them are in working condition. We never missed a weekend on the water thanks to Bilgerat aka Jason from Lake Shores at LOTO.

Great orignal paint. The painted cowl makes it look a little sleeker. Have fun and enjoy. Great boat.

I have a 1990 w/ 548's making 650hp. The drives are xr's w/imco std lowers 1.5 ratio. The props are 28 4 blade hydromotives and the best I got out of it is 85.3 on gps. Most of the time it is around 82-84.
|
That would be a fun trip. Keep me posted on the dates if you guys do one maybe I can make it. How many made it last year? That would make for some really cool pics.

Have you tried a set of Bravo 1's? They seem to carry the bow better if you need the lift.

That was a great run!
I saw you pull into the Inn the night of the fireworks. I was on my 21' Apache. I was anchored too far away to come say hello. |

Yes, it was too much lift and the boat wanted to dance around. The hydromotives seem to be the most stable. I met you last year on the run to Baltimore and we ran up the bay at the end of the day. Going on the fun run in AC?. I think a good fix for me would be to put those blower motors out of yours in mine!!

What do you expect from someone who drives a vw bug!:bong:

Ike, will you be out this weekend? I'm not sure what my plans are but I'll be out in one of the boats both days.

Frank, he would not even associate with someone with such a small boat anyway. If you pull up with your 36 he would let you buy him a drink though.

The tail pipes were not correct, I was on a time crunch at that point ,and should have sold them ,and bought new, but ended up buying new tail pipes , so have the TRS height tail pipes for sale. I may have picked up a couple hundred RPM , but not as much as I hoped for. Overall better, and need the exhaust for future upgrades.
I have seen 73 on GPS, with a ton of people on the boat , but cannot tweek anymore out even with a light load.. Kind of wierd that it runs the same MPH heavy or light. Would love to try some other props , also spinning props in ever since I got the boat, need to try spinning out and see if any different. Love the boat more every time I run it !!!!!

If power and weight aren't changing the speed much, it could be the X dimension is too deep.
Ran into that with my 36' years ago. Raised the X 2" and it became a new boat. |
I am running four blade 26p hydromotive that have been run thru the sand and mud for several season !!!!! 4800-4900 rpm 73 mph on gps.
