You will need an alignment tool for speedmaster #3-#5. It works just like the bravo unit your used to as it has a disk that aligns to the gimbal bell housing and a shaft the aligns the motor at the flywheel/flex plate.

You will want to rig the lift of the motor so you can move side to side, up and down, and be able to tilt the motor front to back.

1) Hang engine with bell housing by eye close the location using the aluminum angle plates for base location front to back.
2) Insert alignment tool into transom/Gimbal so that the shaft is thru the gimbal bell housing.
3) With help from someone insert the shaft into the flywheel flex plate.
4) raise and lower the engine so that the alignment tool disk fits flush with the gimbal bell housing.
5) clamp motor mounts and make sure the alignment shaft moves freely in and out without binding.
6) drill motor mounts and bolt together. I do the front first then recheck that the alignment tool still moves freely.

Hi ,thanks a lot for the great info..so I mount engine first and then transmission..where do i get this tool..big thanks..smile

F-2 Speedy 04-25-2017 03:52 PM

wasnt this a bravo or TRS boat before it was stripped ??, Ive not done a project of this size but I would think you would need to mount the transom assemblies first ( to set the drive height ) and then work your way forward.

No it is set up for ssm ,so should be plug and play..I wish..smile

The process I described is how I do it on a new install. If you want to do it with the transmission mounted it is the same process your just putting the alignment tool into the transmission. The alignment tool should be available thru a mercury service center. They www.mercruiserparts.com they may be your best source to get one shipped to Denmark
