Apache Scout at LOTO Shootout
My wife running her Scout in the LOTO shootout @ 89mph with a LOT left to go. The boat has run over 100mph with me behind the wheel.
She was short by only 2mph to win the class. A little bit of nerves and some cross chop held her back from taking the "W". She did an amazing job and is having a blast at the same time. |
22 scouts
we built quite a few of those 22's in both i/o's and outboards those years. heavy little 22's. 1/2'' plywood deck coring. 3/4'' plywood stringers. thick solid glass hulls, etc. takes some big horsepower & good rigging to get them in the 80's at all. that one just might be the fastest i/o boat ever. then or nowadays.

Hey Panther! This is Andrew with the 29 fountain
Enjoyed meeting you guys down there and looking forward to having yall back at the house again next year. Ready to see her break into the 90s! |
She can drive nice speed!

The kids and I totally dug seeing that out there and running while watching from home! Kudos to the two of you! Super impressive!

My wife assembled the engine with my oversight and mentoring.

What a great story and thread!
Thanks for sharing! She did a hell of a job of driving through that chop! And she built her own motor…….., outstanding! Even more interesting w/having the insider info from Ed, including how heavy they are. Great job to you and the Mrs, Panther! |

i remember building that 22. we made quite a few of them. mercruiser, at that time, had about six or more different small block horsepower packages available and we installed all of them. also including the 454 magnum(330 hp) alpha packages at 74 mph. brian mihalka rigged that boat & painted the apache stripe down the sides, as he did with all of them. enjoyed working with bob & everyone else there then. they were crazy times on 188th street, to say the least.

Didn't catch this great thread until today. What an impressive contender she is, and in one of my fave little wave crushers of all time, the Apache 21/22 Scout. This made me remember the 'Red Thunder' 22. That boat was still around 2 years ago back East. Has anybody seen it in action recently?
