Re: 47 weight with trips
I was interested in this boat (still am) but the person I contacted re the sale of it, was going to provide me with some up to date photos and information on it, which I never recieved. The last I heard of this boat it was apparently missing one of the drives (stolen, rumours??) If any one on here can confirm this and what the current status of this boat is I would be interested in hearing from them.
Cheers James |
Re: 47 weight with trips
James-
If in fact, you are still interested in this boat and would like updated information, call Tony @ 314.581.3532. He knows the current details and the history of this boat. Chad |

Re: 47 weight with trips
I keep hearing about how much it costs to run and maintain a 47 and 41's , my question is why ?
I kind of assume that most people that have one of these boats usually pay's cash for them. So no payment to worry about. Insurance is probably what $5-6k ? I'm also assuming storing it at one's house or on a hoist in thier canal , so no storage fee. Maintaince, hopefully anyone that owns one can do thier own maintaince that is what would make it a passion owning one. You've got oil changes , blower belts , plugs, maybe a set of lifters a season. What else ? Motors freshened maybe every other year at $2-3k a motor if nothing is broken. Servicing a #6 drive might be costly but how often do they need it and can the owner do it ? Gas, now that is an unknown . How much gas does one of these actually use ? Let's say just one weekend of cruising around to the local hotspots and maybe racing a boat or two. Maybe a total of 10-12 hrs running time. Someone replied $40-50k a year to operate on of these, I'm wondering where that figure comes from? |

Re: 47 weight with trips
Thanks Chad,
Im still interested the only thing that has put me off is the shipping cost of bringing the Boat to NZ, I assume it would be around 200 cubic metres in size (approx) so freight alone would be $37,000.. before tax's and anything other expenses... If I lived in the states I would have bought it yesterday. I will try and give him a call anyway. James |
Re: 47 weight with trips
40 to 50 a year is on the being real lucky side....you have to own one to really get the whole offshore experience...headers 32000 every 4 ,5 years, motors 3 at 15 to 20 a piece every 3 years..15 to 20 per year on break downs, no matter what! How do you freshen a 1100 horse blower motor for 2 to 3 grand? Thats the miami shuffle! Drives serviced every 3 years 3 to 6 per, there is always something wrong,worn..you do not think that those motors are going to make it 3 years before you POP one ,do ya? Nope, there goes another 10 to 20...ooops we just went over that 20 maintenance budget .....if your running those 1100s like a set of 525s,which we all do if we have them..its gonna cost you more than this! I need a whole page..gas,5 to 700 per day no sweat,,thats with not beating on them...ooops I forgot you have to beat on them to go and have fun,1000 per day, gas is like paying a toll...they are the best though, king for a day if your lucky! POP...you just blew something.....oooooops  :D

Re: 47 weight with trips
Holy pop & blow!!!!!!!!
You need a better mechanic. |
Re: 47 weight with trips
Yep ... The t-shirt for these big ol' dogs needs to read :
"It's Always Somethin' .... " First ya do this :D and this :drink: then ya do this :( and this  and eventually this :drink: again .... After a few years , when people ask about one like this :D You just do this  . |
Re: 47 weight with trips
Byrdman,
It's just hard to fathom that kind of cash to keep one of those running. My boat has a 675hp N/A 540 that I run WFO pretty much all the time. It's 4 yrs old, I freshened it once (rings, bearings, valve job) for a cost of $1500. (it helps that a friend owns a shop) it gets valvesprings every other season and lifters every. Being in freshwater I haven't even worried about the CMI's , and I got them used they are probably 6yrs old. I know my boat and one of these is like comparing a bi-plane to the space shuttle but it's still just motors and drives. It surprising that those boats are that hard on equipment. $1000 a day in gas  I guess your right on the $3k for a freshen, I'm assuming on something like those motors "freshen" is pistons, rod bolts, valvesprings, lifters, intercoolers? and that blows 3 right there without labor. Whenever I see "Kemosabe" out on the lake I always have respect but now there's even more. |

Re: 47 weight with trips
Pushing 10 to 15 thousand pounds around all day is tough on engines and drives. The life expectancy of engine and drives that push this kind of weight is lower than normal.

Hey Will, whats your 45 tipping the scales at on the new trailer?

JAY13:
Truck: you can find used semi's for 15k right now and i would not tow that beast w/ anything less out of state. Tonto brought up the real problem: It WILL cost 40k a year to maintain, insure, and run that beast. Plus you need a crew to help with docking, loading and unloading, etc. It may only be $ 135 k to purchase but it's the yearly mainenance costs that will bury you. I have often thought about buying a 47' beast but when you sit down and figure the #'s your better off w/ a used 38 Topgun. Wannabe |

Re: 47 weight with trips
Im going to hang on to the innerlimits for now.
House ended up being more $ than I thought out of pocket so I need to spend a few months recovering from this hit. (on an item that appreciates in value im not so concerned though) Its all good. |

Don't get me wrong. I am by no means complaining. That Pete is a pleasure to drive and it tows that boat down the highway like it's not even there. The best thing about the Pete is that you no longer have white knuckle moments like you occasionally get in a pickup because this things handles really well and will stop that load on a dime! I also cannot tell you how comfortable this thing is. You can honestly just turn up the tunes and sit back and relax while the people in the back stretch out and watch TV or a video/DVD. It really makes the long drives much easier and it makes the time fly by. Besides, if you like to stand out in a crowd, another plus is that you absolutely cannot miss a crew cab Peterbilt going down the highway pulling a 45' boat. Just make sure you are not in a hurry to get somewhere because you can't stop anywhere without drawing a crowd and answering all sorts of questions. It's all good though. :D |

Re: 47 weight with trips
Wannabe, What the hell is a gas fridge?
New paint? thats NEW? God what the hell were they thinking? To each their own I guess. Will, Ya know, If I were one pumping diesel into the dually and you pulled up in that bohemoth, I would stop and talk to you too bud! I realize these 41's with pleasure cabins get really heavy so im sure a 47 is really tipping the scales. Like I said im sort of stuck with the innerlimits for now. She is still in the paint process but should be done within next 2 months, then I think I am going to run the crap out of her for a year or so and see where I am at then. Who knows maybe my War Party will be back on the market then??? Or maybe Scott Grady can hook a brother up with a 47 War Party that needs some help :evilb: I would take that project on in a heart beat! J |
Re: 47 weight with trips
You'll be money ahead with BROKEN ARROW over a burnt up 47.IMHO, BA is turn key it's all been redone. Steve

Re: 47 weight with trips
Nykamp, True but the War Party legacy is what I would be after not just a boat.

[QUOTE=Jayl13]Wannabe, What the hell is a gas fridge?
New paint? thats NEW? God what the hell were they thinking? To each their own I guess. Jay13: Hey it's not my boat jus tryin' to help. This 41 seems to be priced much better than others. They used to produce a fridge that was cooled by propane- don't ask me how. A 41 is lot easier to maintain and sell than a 47. That's why you see these them for sale. There was an all white 47 w/ triple 525's for sale a year ago for 125k. Wannabe |
Re: 47 weight with trips
call me greedy, But I would in a perfect world want both 47 war party as a project and 41 war party to run.
47 would take years to get back to perfect.! Then I hold ALL the cards, the whole war party legacy in my own back yard! J |
